PLOS is a non-profit organization on a mission to drive open science forward with measurable, meaningful change in research publishing, policy, and practice.

Building on a strong legacy of pioneering innovation, PLOS continues to be a catalyst, reimagining models to meet open science principles, removing barriers and promoting inclusion in knowledge creation and sharing, and publishing research outputs that enable everyone to learn from, reuse and build upon scientific knowledge.

We believe in a better future where science is open to all, for all.

Accessibility statement

As an open access publisher PLOS is committed to ensuring research is accessible immediately upon publication with no restrictions. Anyone with internet access can find, read, mine, cite and share OA articles at no cost to them. In practice, this means that our content is shared both on our platform (plos.org) and syndicated to a wide range of third-party platforms. Open access means more than content being free to read, it also means making content accessible to d/Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent users. We currently promise to make reasonable efforts in meeting WCAG 2.0 AA guidelines with more robust adherence coming soon to provide improved accessibility and equal access to all users.

We currently test a representative sample of journal content pages using:

  • Screen readers
  • Automated screening tool Pa11y

Our VPAT is available on request by reaching out to customercare@plos.org.

We will work to meet an industry leading standard of accessibility. If you find that there is content that does not meet your accessibility needs, please contact customercare@plos.org.

Please allow 5 business days for us to address requests.
