Ever wonder why several teachers, counselors, librarians, faculty, parents, and students protest every Thursday in front of school and on Genesee Avenue? They are making aware of the absence of a fair contract between UCSD and Preuss teachers, counselors, and librarians. July 31, 2024 marked the day in which the Preuss teachers’, counselors’, and librarians’ union contract expired. Negotiations for a new contract began in February of 2024, and now, over one year later, UCSD and Preuss teachers, counselors, and librarians have not reached an agreement on their new contract which would cover three to four years, or can even be changed depended on what is agreed on. The Preuss School teachers, counselors, and librarians are part of the University Council-American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT), which represents librarians and faculty throughout the University of California...

In this spotlight, we take a closer look at the players and their coach, and their progress both on and off the field. Coach Greco’s involvement as a coach of a sport’s team is fairly new to what she had experienced as an instructional teacher. “It’s really fun to be the coach, and to interact with students in a different way than just being a teacher,” said Coach Greco, “You want to make sure everyone has a good experience and appreciates playing lacrosse.” This year, new freshmen, as well as upperclassmen, have joined the lacrosse team. Coach Greco, and the players have noticed a shift in the team’s dynamic compared to previous seasons....

Some friends find others tripping and falling funny—which is classic slapstick comedy. The first progress reports for Spring Semester have come out, leaving some scholars satisfied with their grades, while others were not. Grades are important at Preuss since they are what colleges see on transcripts and are a big factor to keeping a scholar’s college application competitive. The Preuss School’s mission is to help bring underrepresented students from low income families to ultimately reach a college education, and in order to do this, students should aim to have exceptional grades. Although maintaining exceptional grades can be challenging, there are many effective ways to get and maintain them. One of the most effective ways to keep up grades is to stay organized with a schedule. Not only does having a schedule give a Preuss scholar a way to know when they’re expected to complete their homework, but it can also help to prioritize work based on deadlines which comes in handy especially when there is an overwhelming amount of it. Additionally, a schedule...
