2 years ago	mod	Removed Comment He was attacked for no justifiable reason by three people who were all very obviously trying to kill him. He prevented them from succeeding and protected his own life. In all three situations, he was never the aggressor, he never escalated, consistently fled as a first response to aggression towards him, and used his weapon at the absolute last possible moment. Said moments: 1. while someone who literally screamed "I'm going to kill you" is trying to wrestle his gun away from him--three guesses what he was planning to do with the gun if he got a hold of it. 2. while someone is winding up to strike him in the head with a skateboard (which weighs over 10 pounds on average--think that's not a lot? A brick weighs half that, want to volunteer for someone to swing one of them at your head?) for the second time, having already struck him once 3. while someone has a(n illegally-possessed, by the way, unlike Rittenhouse's rifle) handgun pointed at him, for the second time, after pretending to lower it These are all facts that were clearly documented on video and/or not disputed in the trial at all (in other words, both sides accepted them to be true). The three people (all with violent crime histories, by the way) who attacked Rittenhouse that day are the 'not sane' ones. For crying out loud, the event that set all these events in motion was that he extinguished a fire the first attacker had set (with the goal of blowing up a gas station!), which drove him into a homicidal rage (cue "I'm going to kill you")! Doesn't sound like a very sane way to react--then again, trying to blow up a gas station with a flaming dumpster doesn't sound very sane to begin with, either. by ObjectivityIncarnate@lemmy.world reason: said rittenhouse was acting in self defense
