  • Mhmm, I’m honestly not that interested in all these media adaptations. I like the original pieces of art and I don’t know if I will like a work based on it in an entirely different medium. For example, I never read the Bloodborne Comic, despite adoring the game.

But a big budget movie adaptation of one of my favorite games ever? I have some concerns… And will probably not go watch it in a cinema. But I will definitely watch it eventually.

I haven’t watched a Alex Garland movie yet. But I have Annihilation on my hard drive. Wait I have watched Dredd! Which was decent, I guess?

I have seen a couple of these actors before:

    • Cailee Spaeny, as the main character in Alien Romulus. She was decent, no Sigourney Weaver, but decent acting.
    • Ben Whishaw, as Q in Skyfall and the gay artist in Cloud Atlas. He was very good in Cloud Atlas.
    • Nick Offerman, I have watched a couple of Parks and Rec’s clips?
    • Peter Serafinowicz, I have seen him in a couple of minor roles like in Guardians of the Galaxy. He has voice acted in a Fromsoft game before! He was Mild-Mannered Pate, the Patches equivalent, in Dark Souls 2.
    • Jonathan Pryce, as the Governor in Pirates of the Caribbean. He was quite good?

Edit: Here is the Wikipedia page of the movie.

A24 gives me hope. Alex Garland has played the game (thank Marika!). “Only” $100 Million as budget? I imagined more, but it is a A24 movie. Seems a bit low these days for an epic fantasy movie. On the other hand Everything Everywhere All at Once cost only $14–25 million and that was excellent in both set design and effects.

  • For me it’s Dark Souls 3. At least for the games I finished. Maybe ‘disappointed’ is a bit strong. For me the problem with DS3 was my expectation: I envisioned a fusion of Bloodborne and DS2, both games I massively enjoyed and that exceeded my expectations. DS3 just couldn’t live up to that… It’s world wasn’t as immersive, it’s graphical style wasn’t quite as good. It’s areas are mostly good if a bit linear and it has some phenomenal Boss fights. The combat system is on the whole very enjoyable, it is still a Dark Souls game, but it wasn’t so much of a step forward as my expectation made me wish for.

Now, Elden Ring on the other hand exceeded my massive expectations and then some…

This weekend, I again didn’t play any Soulslikes. At the tail end of a cold I mostly lounge on my Sofa and played more Pokémon. Now done with Heartgold and now in the middle of Black. Now there is the story worthy of a Soulslike! Okay, maybe not… And Souls games have for the most part more of a world-building vibe than a story and I’m just spamming past dialog and I don’t know where I was going with this.

  • This is the tomb after the Cathedral of the Forsaken; the Three Fingers are way below.

You can skip to the bottom by using a critical attack on one of the mournful nomads, who play string instruments. Stance break them with, for example, a small shield, walk in front of them near the edge, and then crit them with your empty hand. During your critical attacks, you are entirely immune to damage, even fall damage. Also, the fall looks pretty cool; you just have to sacrifice one of the last survivors of the nomads at the site of their genocide…

  • Are Monster Hunter games Soulslites? I’ve played quite a bit of Monster Hunter. As far as Action RPGs go they are kinda similar with the different weapon types and builds and at least for me the combat at times feels kinda similar (I pressed △ quite a bit during my first fight against Cleric Beast, because the transformed Saw Cleaver reminded my brain of the Longsword). The larger gameplay loop is not that similar so I’m really not sure if it counts. Still Monster Hunter games are fun Action RPGs.

I’ve not played a lot: irl stuff + low energy. I still want to use the rematch feature in LoP a bit and formulate my thoughts on the game. I’m currently lounging on my sofa and playing Pokémon on my phone; I just beat Crystal (love those sprites). That’s pretty far removed from Souls games.

  • The classic answer to this is Godwyn. There is quite a lot of room in his story. While he kinda has his related ending in the Duskborn Ending, he is still a pretty mysterious figure. You could go the classic time travel route and go to the Night of Black Knives or to just after at the beginning of the Shattering. But such a setting wouldn’t lend itself to an open world, at least in my mind, since you would either be confined or just retread the Lands Between.

I would be interested in a DLC focused on the Outer Gods. Mainly on the Mother of the Gravebirds and the Mother of Truth (Blood-goddess worshipped by Mogh and the Bloodfiends). The Mother of the Gravebirds is probably a Bird like creature because of her children and her envoys who are twin-birds; I imagine her as a giant Phoenix - Fromsoft didn’t have any phoenices yet, right? I could also see a focus on the elements of the outer gods. Only Rot has ever been clearly stated as an element, but maybe also frenzy, verdigris, and blood(?). Also maybe a bit more insight in to the life cycle of gods since they can apparently die like the Lake of Rot, which is just the corpse of a Outer God, or the tomb under the capital, where the three fingers are. We could even find out in this hypothetical DLC the fate of Placidusax’s god (the vessel of the Elden Ring during his Order). Many plot-hooks you can combine in this Stories of the Outer Gods.

I beat the final Boss of the Lies of P DLC. Very cinematic fight. Very fun DLC overall. I usually don’t enjoy tag team fights that much, but this was very enjoyable. Also some really nice voice lines.

I will carve dread into your eyes that will haunt you forever!

This was probably my favorite mid-battle line. Very nice voice acting by Lea’s voice actor.

This weekend I’m probably going to be using the rematch feature to battle the Overseer and Markiona again, since I easily trounced them earlier.

  • When I encountered Markiona I also immediately thought of that post :)

Visually Markiona is fantastic, one of my favorites. A magi-tech puppeteer who fights with an angel puppet? Awesome! The fight? I didn’t have time to mechanically evaluate her. I beat her on the 3rd or 4th try simply by whaling on her and defelcting/blocking when the light effects suggested it. My damgage output and defenses where simply to high. If you go at the earliest chance to the DLC, she is probably a lot harder. I don’t even know if the puppet is completely or only partially dependent on her in the fight. After I beat the game I’m going to rematch Markiona and the Oversser in the reamtch feature to get a proper feel for her.

My build is super boring (;´∀`) I only experimented at the beginning a bit: I chose the Strength Motivity starting class and I’m still using the Greatsword of Fate. After acquiring a couple of weapons I tried out a couple of different grips and choose the Krat Police Baton. I don’t know how exactly the assemble meachinc even functions. I should probably read up on it before I do another run. But for my first I didn’t want to look up anything about making a good build in LoP. I mostly leveled Health and Stamina and so much Capacity. I was always wearing the best armor parts. Back to the weapon: I have played through 99% of the game with Greatsword of Fate + Baton Grip; I love the quick downwards chop of the charge attack. It was my main source of damage for the majority of the game. Good damage, good stagger damage. My character still looks like a starting chracter with the starting sword and I’m even still wearing the white starting shirt. I now have enough materials to upgrade a dozen weapons but I have fused with my current weapon. This is probably like someone beating Elden Ring with the basic Club :)

  • My fav’ is also spider Patches. It’s mostly because he was the first Patches I encountered. I like the way he moves, there is something eery about the head on the spiders body in movement.

Heh heh heh heh…Oh Amygdala, oh Amygdala… Have mercy on the poor bastard…Hah hah hah!

My favorite voice line from Bloodborne’s Patche’s. It’s mostly William Vanderpuye pronunciation.

Bloodborne’s Patche’s also breaks the space-time continuum: if you kill him in the Lecture Building, he is still waiting on the wall in the Nightmare Frontier to push you of the cliff, even though he is already dead.

I’m finishing up Lies of P DLC. I just got the “Last Battle” pop-up. So I’m looking around if I have missed anything in the DLC (probably not much; I was quite thorough).

Also, damn, Anguished Guardian is such a fun Soulsborne boss; very fun giant boss; cool design. The rythm of the fight kinda reminded me of Bayle. Probably my favorite boss of the dlc until now. Maybe the final boss will be better???
