about

A note from Hannes...

The mountains define the visible horizon. Acoustically, however, I experience this landscape as a space shaped by transit: motorway, railway, air traffic, and wind. Millions of vehicles pass through the valley each year, generating a continuous sonic presence amplified by the surrounding mountain ranges.

Growing up in this mountainous environment has shaped my perception of acoustic space, distance, and resonance. From above the valley, distant sounds form a unified sonic field. Descending towards the valley floor, this field gradually unfolds into distinct layers and individual sources.

I listen to these spaces while moving through them.

Resonance IBK is built from field recordings I made across these spaces. I use the recordings as material for composition rather than documentation. Microtonal, spectral, and rhythmic structures emerge from the interaction of infrastructure, topography, and atmosphere.
The musical material for electric bass, electric double bass, voice, and electronics develops directly from these sound fields. Instrumental and recorded sounds merge into shifting acoustic environments where source and transformation become inseparable.

The work unfolds in five parts: railway line, motorway, city centre, and the two sides of the valley, recorded simultaneously from both perspectives. Interludes for four trombones connect the larger sections. Natural and technological layers of sound overlap, shift, and recombine within a dynamic field of resonance.
