About Amarok
Amarok is a powerful music player for Linux, Unix, and Windows with an intuitive interface. It makes playing the music you love and discovering new music easier than ever before, and it looks good doing it! Much of where work has been invested in Amarok 2 is the Web services integration. Now Amarok can connect to various Web services and access the music directly, greatly expanding the potential number of songs at your fingertips. Thanks to the powerful API, adding additional services can be done with very little effort. Scrobble and listen to any Last.fm radio stream with fully featured Last.fm integration. Buy tracks from the integrated Magnatune store, and help support the music labels. Connect remotely to an Ampache music server and browse search, and playback media files. Find, subscribe, and download audio and video podcasts from all over the ultimate podcast directory. Listen to streaming audio books straight from the Librivox catalog.

"Amorok is lovely but Avast AV thinks Linux is malware!" Posted 2025-10-22
Pros: Great control over music/audio library.
Access to many online radio and music hosts of which many are free.
For what it does, it loads quickly and is relatively easy on resources in my old ASUS G74SX.Cons: Nothing about Amarok. Only AVAST will not let it contact websites it uses in Linux. Thinks they are malware but they are not when Amarok accesses them. Had to dump AVAST over it as no matter what I excluded or made exceptions for, it's 'mind' was made up. Bit defender does the job and does not intrude into my world more than it thinks is justified. This happened in October,2025 running a fully protected but outmoded Windows 7.1 as my machine will not do Win 10-11. Still like to double boot with Linux and Windows and have done so for 13 years. No reason to abandon a good OS just because yobs try to stampeded you into it. Ran XP waaaaaay past it's due date and if you are careful with where you go, no trouble at all.
Overall: If you are a bit itchy over the music program you currently use, or just like to try new things out to compare, I heartily suggest you give Amarok a good try out as the KDE organization (Linux) has worked on, improved and supported this app with a good forum for many years.
