To expand on that 'bugs fixed': It is mostly very good, but there is a longstanding (and long since reported) bug in which purging or deleting volumes spawns multiple redundant confirmation popups for the same operation, with different wording in each. I *THINK* the problem of the operator being unable to override target storage or pool for an on-demand job got fixed a while back. -- Phil Stracchino Fenian House Publishing ph...@ca... ph...@co... I *hate and detest* the "Everything is a web page" metaphor. Contrary to widespread belief, a web browser *is not* the best of all possible interfaces. Hi all,
as Qt5 support here on Gentoo Linux is nearing its end, I would like to ask
again about the state of the bat Qt console for bacula? Any news here?
It would be a pitty if we would be forced the support.
So any comment ist welcome.
Sincerly,
Thomas.

Hello Eric & Marcin, I've tried the "Reset my Password" link using Brave. I did receive the reset password e-mail without problem, but using the link provided from it I got this error *Your password reset token has expired.* This is strange as I used the link roughly 2 minutes after requesting the "password reset". Hello Everybody, I am not able to log in to Bacula Community GitLab. I tried logging in and resetting password. Below I am adding the errors that I received: === Login error: 422: The change you requested was rejected Make sure you have access to the thing you tried to change. Please contact your GitLab administrator if you think this is a mistake. === Reset password error: 1 error prohibited this user from being saved: * Auditor user cannot be created without the "GitLab_Auditor_User" addon. Normally I would report it to GitLab but because of the above errors I am not able to do this there. Thanks in advance for your help to fix GitLab. Best regards, Marcin Haba (gani) |

I'm not sure what you mean by job status, the messages command will
display job messages, not job status change. (Running to Waiting, or Cancel,
...).
> Yet somehow, even though it works for console, I never see that info

I'm not sure that the Daemon message resource is configured to get your
Job messages, double check that. After, each message is sent via STDIO
and might take time to end up written in your socket. Perhaps the syslog
destination would be more appropriate, and syslog is very flexible for
that.
Hope it helps!
Best Regards,
Eric

Hello, I'm writing a GUI around Bacula (yeah, another one), and my
problem is I want to receive every job status change, e.g. if it's
running, failed, etc, to display to user interactively.
After digging far and wide, I figured the only way to do this is by
changing `bacula-dir.conf` to have:
Messages {
Name = Daemon
append = "/tmp/dir-messages-named-pipe" = all, events, debug
}
Per my understanding, this should send everything to
/tmp/dir-messages-named-pipe. I know for a fact job status changes are
part of the logs, because if you launch `bconsole` (assuming you have
`console = all` option) and execute `messages`, you see job status
changes info.
Yet somehow, even though it works for console, I never see that info
among messages coming to /tmp/dir-messages-named-pipe!

Hi Everyone. That reminds me of an old idea that I had several years ago (not sure if I had commented or not here), nevertheless, my idea was based on the credentials rotations. The goal is to avoid manually updating configurations across many clients. Instead, we can enable the Bacula Director to push new passwords to connected clients securely. Here's a high level concept for a smooth credential rotation: 1. Dual-Password Configuration: Both the Director and the FD are configured to accept two passwords: the Password (current) and an OldPassword. 2 - Connection & Notification: An FD connects to the Director using its current Password. During the session, the Director can signal that a new password is available. 3 - Secure Update: The FD, over the already-authenticated connection, requests the new password. The Director provides it, and the FD updates its configuration (e.g., writes it to the file: or dynfile: referenced in its config). 4 - Graceful Transition: For a defined period, both the old and new passwords are valid. This prevents backup failures if a client restarts before receiving the update. 5 - Cleanup: After a successful transition and a configured timeout, the OldPassword is automatically retired from both sides. Key Advantages: ============= * Zero-Touch Rotation: Password changes can be initiated once from the Director and propagate automatically to all active clients. * No Backup Disruption: The dual-password window ensures operations aren't interrupted during the rollout. * Handles Scale: This works for 10 or 1,000 FDs without additional manual effort. * Complements External Secrets: This rotation mechanism would work seamlessly with Clinton's proposed file:, dynfile:, or credstore: directives. The FD would simply update the secret in the external store or file. Logically, not sure how technically complicated that can be !!! but in theory, the idea should work well !! :-D Salu2 -- -- Victor Hugo dos Santos http://www.vhsantos.net Linux Counter #224399 |

Hi all, I have now checked and can confirm that I can not create a new issue (result is 404 and don't get me started ranting on misleading status codes...) and that there is no "New Issue" button in Bacula Community's issue list that I ca find. Hi Arno, Many thanks for the confirmation about the bacula-devel list. Yes, fortunately it started working back. The emails sent 7 hours ago now came in reverse order but this is not a problem. Hello Everybody, In my opinion this 'New Issue' button is the most important button in this Bacula GitLab because thanks to this function Bacula can become better. This is a crucial function. After two weeks this is still not working. Maybe the Community can help somehow in fixing this issue? What do you think about it? Thanks in advance for your response. BTW: I am sending this message one more time because my original message, that I sent to this list today morning, was not delivered to this list and not displayed here: https://sourceforge.net/p/bacula/mailman/bacula-devel/ This time I used different email. It looks that the devel list experienced an delivering mails issue. Best regards, Marcin Haba (gani) |

I also get the same 404 error. Are we raising this issue in the appropriate location? I also note the most recently created issue is two months old. Hello Dan, Thanks for the response and the tip. In GitLab are two places for reporting new issue: 1) Button with label "New issue in Bacula Community" - This button is visible if we do not choose any project in GitLab. Clicking this causes 404 error. 2) Button with label "New issue" - This button should be visible after selecting the project on the issue list page at the top. I meant this button, that it is missing. > I also get the same 404 error. > > Are we raising this issue in the appropriate location? In my opinion, yes. GitLab is a tool for the Bacula developers and users. Normally these problems could be reported by opening a new issue but in this case this is not possible. > I also note the most recently created issue is two months old. Perhaps this has been broken for a while. Yes, good point. I am worrying if these our e-mails in this topic will be delivered to this list, because the bacula-devel list web page shows that no message was delivered today to the list: https://sourceforge.net/p/bacula/mailman/bacula-devel/ I sent today two different e-mails to this list and they were not displayed on the bacula-devel webpage either. Hello Martin, Yes, I confirm it. I see the same - no "New issue" button. Thanks for finding it. I am writing about this to amplify "the transmission signal" of this problem :-) Best regards, Marcin Haba (gani) |

Hi, When I click on the "New issue" button on this page: https://gitlab.bacula.org/groups/bacula-community-edition/-/issues I get a 404: Page not found error for the URL: https://gitlab.bacula.org/bacula-community-edition/bacula-community/-/issues/new Also, sometimes the "New issue" button is missing completely. __Martin |

We use this in production at $WORK. All secrets are stored using this approach.
All configuration files are stored in repos. There are no secrets in repos.
