#145 Build patches used in homebrew

I am a homebrew maintainer (the package manager for Mac and Linux).
Just a small heads up that we are using the following patches in our build setup.
I do not know if they are needed and what initial issue they were fixing (I guess compilation and build errors); but we have been shipping freeimage with these patches for some time now. Our policy is to upstream these patches, so they might interest you:
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/formula-patches/master/freeimage/3.17.0.patch
The first one is for mac, the second for Linux. They touch the almost the same lines.
You might want to analyse these and have a look if anything can be salvaged from these patches, if anything is of interest for you in these.
If not, we'll continue shipping the patches until anything bigger is broken and we need to write a new patch.
