Hi Andy, Thanks for the reply. I have uninstalled Prepar3D v4 as I was having some issues. I will keep the answer you provided in mind. Robert
Do you have any p3dv4 "add-on" scenery packages installed? These aren't managed by the SCE and can set themselves at a higher priority than those in scenery.cfg. First How do you update to a newer version of SCE? Do you just run the installer for the new version? Do you have to uninstall the existing version first? Second I am using v 1.1.7 with FSX Steam edition installed no FSX boxed edition. How can I also use SCE for my P3D v3.3 sim? I have looked but can not see where the info is so that I can use SCE for both sims. I must be missing something important when it comes to using your program for more than one sim. I have no idea how this is done? Thanks...

There's nothing special to do to uninstall. If the file is working it's working. Just stop using the editor. I would say that without using SCE you will not be able to safely use this 6 scenery file technique. The errors detected by the editor will still be present and you will have no way to fix them. Ideally you should just have one scenery file with groups and switch things on or off as required. If you really require multiple files then you will have to tolerate fixing the file at times and without...
I don't know if I have made the uninstall process harder or not! I did check to use the New Scenery convention when I first installed, but I have no such file in C\programData\Microsoft\FSX maybe because since installing I have never just hit (Save) I have always used (Save AS). I have six different scenery .cfg files and what I do is load what ever one I want then Save As Scenery.cfg. Any time I install any scenery as well as (Orbix Scenery) I make sure that the main scenery file with all the areas...
I am running FSX-SE on Windows 10. I have lots of Orbix scenery plus much more. I find that I have to do a reorder often and this scares me,could cost me a reinstall! Therefore I would like to uninstall SCE but I don't know how to safely do that. Please advise Thanks

cfg errors in Scenery Config editor
Hey Andy, Yeah, I did see the scenery area index 000 when i checked the cfg in my text editor, but I'm not sure how that index got there. It was not added by me - I can only assume it was added by Orbx FTX Central somehow during the install of the various Orbx packages. I had planned to use the "fix duplicate area numbers" feature as I've seen that (along with the auto layer number reordering functionality) of SCE but as far as I remember I wasn't able to get to the menu to use it because of the...
Hi Wills! Sorry for not replying yesterday - I was at a wedding. So looking at your scenery.cfg, there's two issues here: 1. The first Area in the file has the identification number 000 this is not allowed - the minimum number is 001. 2. That same Area has the layer number 0 - this is also not allowed and the minimum is 1. Now my code is telling you the wrong thing for this - saying its a duplicate area - rather than what it really which is simply illegal and looking at it I don't handle negative...
Probably worth noting that I believe my scenery.cfg was actually corrupt as P3D V4 froze trying to startup until I removed the config and let it generate a fresh one. Maybe SCE could detect the corruption and fix it?
Null Pointer Exception
Some how, I had two instances off SCE loaded on my win 10 64 bit FSX/P3Dv4 machine. Having both flight sim platforms was getting too messy for me, so I removed all the FSX add ons and then removed FSX and then to start a clean version of SCE, I uninstalled SCE with the aim of reloading CSE with P3Dv4 only. I used the add/remove program feature to remove SCE. However, when removed, I noticed I still had a shortcut to SCE on my task bar. When I clicked it, another instance of SCE popped up!! Ummm,...

Btw. another good thread about this: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/512207-please-can-someone-explain-how-scenery-add-on-priorities-layers-work/
I was under impression that my last post covered just that.
Also, apparently starting with v3.4 but strictly implented in v4, is the ability to have "private scenery.cfgs" (I think they call the private one something different -- it is an XML file) which are not part of the actual scenery.cfg. For instance, FSDreamteam does this. Here is a good discussion (especially Virtuali's Post) -- https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/511200-new-scenerycfg-conventions/ So here is the problem with 1.18 -- it only accesses the public scenery.cfg and also the priority ordering...

Version 1.1.8
Change the site plugin to 3.3 to deal with an error
Lets try this again with the site plugin having wagon shall we...?
Update poms to allow deployment - hopefully this will allow me to release with maven
Move version back to 1.1.8-SNAPSHOT
attempt to fix issue with mvn deploy:deploy
Fix pom errors
Fix error on change of file-encoding
Add testing code for the WindowsRegistry
Move to use juniversalchardet library - may need more clever file encodings stuff in future
Add a debug method to the windows registry and try just ignoring the \0s
Remove unused label
Finally fix the registry code for reading p3dv4
I think I've finally fixed this - grab the snapshot up at the previous address and try it if you can. If it actually finds the directory we're all set and I can do a release. Andy
Hi, There is a relatively good description in their SDK: http://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv4/LearningCenter.php SDK -> Add-ons -> Add-on Packages There is also a lengthy discussion on AVSIM about this: https://www.avsim.com/forums/topic/511395-installing-add-ons-in-v4/ Point in the end being is that adding the same layer number as they are in the scenery.cfg will appropriately layer the scenery with the new .xml system. Without layer-entry, the scenery goes on top, so far I've seen.
Hey, I've been unaware of this. Do you have a link to some documentation about this? I can see how much work it would be to do this - if it's easy it might be possible to add this - it might need to be a completely new tool however. Hello, I've been using SCE since the times of oh FS9 I think, or at least FSX... it has been one stop for sceneries and sorting for me. Now, with the release of the new addon-system from LM, with .xml data, which is great, I wonder if you will follow this new add-on management development? If I understand it correctly, one cannot edit the layering in the P3D, but have to resort to manual editing for each addon.xml, which will quickly become a big annoyance. Have you looked into this? Thanks Kost...
Hi Joe, I'm not sure how you're getting that. When did you download the snapshot? Could you grab another copy if it wasn't on Saturday. You really shouldn't get rid of the first two characters - they are the markers that the file is in UTF-16. Did you load up the file before changing the mode to P3Dv4 mode? If so just reload the file and it should work. I guess I should just guess the file-encoding to prevent this kind of problem and I'm taking a look at that to see if there's a sensible way of doing...
I'm in Prepar3d v4 mode and I get the formatting error on startup with the new 1.18 Snapshot. I can bypass by getting rid of two characters at the very beginning of the scenery.cfg file. Unfortunately, upon loading the file I get an Uncaught Exception Java error. I'm using the very latest Java 64bit version. Joe

Hi Howard, Glad you manaaged to get SCE working well in the end. Once I've confirmed we've got a working version, I'll release a new version of SCE (likely to be 1.1.8), you'll need to download this version and then it will work with P3Dv4. You should just replace your old SCE - it'll still work for FSX-SE just as well. Now, if you want to use the editor for P3D etc, you simply go into the Preferences and click the read registry button for the appropriate simulator, click the right mode radio button,...
Cool :-) Andi, can you make SCE save the file in LE?
just tried tried and yes that works P3D v4 now reads the config ok
If you edit a valid scenery.cfg with PSPad then the format is shown as UTF-16 LE (Little Endian). The file saved by Scenery Config Editor was shown as UTF-16 BE (Big Endian). After opening a file saved by SCE and save it as Little Endian it is accepted by P3Dv4. Hope this helps Martin
