ITS will be performing Emergency After-Hours Network Maintenance performing a failover of the supervisors of b-core-9600 in order to alleviate synchronization issues between the supervisors. The expected down time will be about 10 minutes if the failover works as intended and if not, we will need to fail back to the current active supervisor which will take another 10 minutes. B-core-9600 is largely a redundant unit, but some areas including Resnet will be impacted. Posted on

IMPACT: On Tuesday, April 22 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. PT, the Office of Information Assurance, Security Engineering Services, will be upgrading the firewalls that service the SDSC Colo datacenter and the East Campus Node N networks. These firewall clusters operate in a high availability cluster and take advantage of failover protocols to maintain network uptime. During the failover events, short, sub-minute, network interruption is expected as traffic moves over to the stand-by unit. There will be multiple reboots as we need to process through a few versions of firmware to follow a recommended upgrade path.

The upgrade is not expected to cause downtime as the firewalls operate in a redundant pair and the upgrade will be done one at a time. Traffic will balance to the active device while the other is being upgraded. There may be some small packet loss, but otherwise there should not be any prolonged outage.
