So… where do I even start?

I started playing and streaming CS:GO actively back in 2015. Back then, it was an incredible game for me. There was so much to discover in every mode – those times were just amazing.

The community was already “special” even back then, but it was still fun. You got to meet so many great people from all around the world.

The ranked mode was stressful, sure – but also incredibly exciting. On YouTube, there were amazing formats where you laughed, but also got hyped, wondering if someone would rank up.

The events? Pure goosebumps. Even now, thinking about it: Twitch Drops during CS:GO Majors, beautiful stickers, trophies you could upgrade by making correct Pick’Ems.

Of course, there were already issues with cheaters or people who just couldn’t be happy for others – but it was still manageable back then.

The atmosphere was just different.
How often did we sit in TeamSpeak watching esports matches or talking about them?
How many funny ingame moments were there where both teams were laughing in chat?

There were these occasional hype moments from Operations that made your heart race. You always had something to do: missions, skins, challenges, rewards. You could grind and actually earn meaningful things – upgraded Operation coins, exclusive skins, and more.

There was simply more content. And over time, that became less and less.

The focus on skins and gambling kept growing – from Valve, content creators, and players alike. Meanwhile, actual gameplay content kept decreasing.

I’d even say: the love for gameplay slowly disappeared.
And frustration kept growing.

Around 2019, things started to feel empty. The CS:GO / CS2 Majors became more and more underwhelming. Just a basic coin, stickers, teams – the entire event no longer felt like it was built by passionate fans, but by people chasing money.

Even the game itself started offering less and less. Events and player feedback were barely considered anymore.

To this day, the game feels like it’s getting worse: barely any new meaningful content, questionable map rotations – but constantly new skins.

A big reason for that is the massive number of people on YouTube, Twitch, and other platforms who treat the game like a gambling simulator.
It’s all about spending money and chasing rare items – just like their favorite creators.

And yet, everyone keeps complaining about how bad the game is…
while player numbers are still insanely high every single day.

If players and creators had united earlier to push for real change, maybe things wouldn’t have gone this far.

I’m honestly very disappointed at this point. After more than 11,200 hours on my main account, I barely see a single game without cheaters, bought accounts used for trolling, cheating, or farming skins.

The atmosphere in the game has become toxic.
A really unpleasant environment.

You constantly get compared to content creators.
If you don’t play like them, don’t act like them, or don’t have their skins – you’re instantly looked down on.

This mentality has grown massively – fueled by frustration in the community and many creators (not all, of course). There are still good ones, but they’ve become rare.

Whenever an “update” drops, you see the same comments over and over again for years – and nothing changes.

Why?

Because big creators keep pushing skins, and millions follow them.
As long as player numbers stay high, nothing will change on the developer side.

What needs to change

We need to act together.
If everyone keeps complaining but continues the same behavior, nothing will ever improve.

Money shouldn’t be the only focus.
Skins are great – no doubt. But the game suffers because of it. And so do we as players.

CS:GO was and still is a great game.
It just needs to find its way back to its roots – combined with modern graphics.

The ranked system also needs to become fairer and more transparent again.

More maps in the active pool – there are talented creators working on maps for years without recognition.

How often do you play your best game and still get no reward because teammates don’t take it seriously?

Nowadays, many matches already feel like a “GG” during warm-up.

Concrete suggestions
Bring back the old ranking system (with improvements)
Add CS2 + CS:GO Classic mode
No weapon passes
Active updates, events & tournaments
More maps / active map rotation
No generic Major coin
Bring back old trophies + Pick’Em rewards
Twitch Drops during Majors
Stable servers
Strong anti-cheat system (e.g. IP bans)
Community-driven skin events
Active community managers in direct contact with players
Better punishments for trolls & cheaters
Fair recognition for good and respectful play (ranked)
Unique Major drops (not purchasable later)
Better leveling system for grinders

We need more content for players who love progression and rare achievements.

And most importantly: we need to feel passion from the developers again.

10/10

gerne mehr davon!
