I'm a huge fan of Chaos Theory and consider it to be one of the best stealth games in history for its design. When Conviction came out I played it only to be blown away at how everything that was great about Chaos Theory had been thrown away. While Double Agent (game prior to Conviction) was much more streamlined, it still contained many things from Chaos Theory that made it work. Conviction was such a mess that I didn't even make it halfway through the game before I dropped it and went back to CT. I had very low expectations for Blacklist, but for once I was glad I was wrong.

First off, lets make it clear that Blacklist is NOT Chaos Theory. If you wanted Chaos Theory then you should play Chaos Theory; nevertheless Blacklist brings a game that encourages a kind of stealth that suits the more fast moving hard hitting gameplay, tons of gadgets, and good old coop and spies vs merc modes. As a game I got 16 hours out of just the single-player content in BL.

While things like the mark and execute system from Conviction return, it acts as more of an option than a must use tactic like it was in conviction. In addition to this, non-lethal options are much more common place and maps are open to more tactical options (though still nowhere near CT's giant interconnected maps, nevertheless its still a far cry from Convictions linear design).

There are alot of things I wish Blacklist did but in the end I found myself charmed (to say the least) by the game's competence in what it did do. As long as you acknowledge that BL will not be CT you'll have a great time and hope that the next game, Ubisoft will bring back the detailed light and sound meter, along with Michael Ironside as Sam's Voice Actor.

The new guy has Sam's charm and grit, but not the tone.
