Unpacking an OpenAI IPO

Venture investing and retail stock investing are two very different things. Venture investors, depending on the stage, look at a lot of factors that are not specific to the economics of the underlying business. Early stage venture investors like us look at the founder and whether we think they both have a vision worth backing and whether they have the a…

Great article. As a retail investor (that wishes he had pre-IPO access), this (and the Anthropic) IPO feel like wait and see plays. Let the stocks pop, give the market a few quarters to digest earnings reports, let lockups expire and consider buying if/when valuations align closer to the underlying financials of these businesses. That or consider buying an ETF (or ETFs) that track the broader market and adjacent technologies.

Really glad to see the workshop open and provide people with in-person education. Do you all plan to expand these workshops to more locations and service more communities? Is there a way to pair education offerings with communities just now receiving broadband access so they don’t get further left behind by this technology revolution?

The "vanilla agent, rich foundation" framing is the part more teams need to hear. Everyone wants to copy the architecture but the real moat is the unified monorepo, annotated tables, and ranking retrieval by trusted queries rather than dumping every historical query in.

OpenAI Offers A New Policy Blueprint

Right after a new Executive Order seems like an excellent time to offer OpenAI’s new document: Democratic Governance of Frontier AI: A Blueprint For A Federal Framework.

The timing isn't incidental, it's the strategy. Dropping a "federal framework" blueprint the same week as the EO is how you convert a moment of regulatory motion into preemption: one federal standard you helped write beats fifty state bills you can't control. The RSI language does double duty, sounding like safety while quietly arguing that only the incumbent labs are equipped to be at the table. Worth asking who the blueprint excludes more than what it includes.

Useful resource.
But one thing education will eventually have to separate is:
Prompt quality ≠ learning quality.
A student can write an excellent prompt and still not understand the subject.
The next challenge is not only teaching students how to get better AI outputs.
It's helping them verify, explain, apply, and defend what they learned from those outputs.
That is where real understanding starts.

Anthropic did not call for a pause on AI

And neither did OpenAI.
Last week, the AI company Anthropic released a blog post titled “When AI builds itself”. This led to a media frenzy, with news outlets around the world publishing headlines that the company was urging a global pause on AI development, or calling for

Thank you for this comprehensive view into the tactics of these AI companies. Here is where European nations can lead the world to reject AI Superintelligence development. Somebody's got to lead and the MAGA US is too enamored with raw power to place any controls on these companies. From your article I am much more aware of these companies' strategies for deflection, empty promises, faux concern while continuing on their one big mission.

OpenAI Super App: Old wine, New bottle

The super app is the oldest trick in the technology playbook. OpenAI is staking its IPO valuation on AI to make it work.
OpenAI Inc. is said to be planning the biggest overhaul of ChatGPT since the chatbot burst onto the scene in November 2022. According to Financial Times, the company aims to transform ChatGPT into a “super app” that integrates AI agents, coding tools and third-party services.

Excellent analysis. For fundamental investors with a 5-to-10-year horizon, how should we weigh the opportunity set between US AI infrastructure and emerging market equities? Do you view AI as a centralizing force that further concentrates capital in the US or potentially as a catalyst that accelerates growth in regions like LatAm through localized adoption?"

"In space, there are no cooling costs."
It's impossible to take someone who writes this seriously. In space there is no conductive or convective cooling, only radiative, which is is very inefficient, and it certainly is not free. Any investment in SpaceX is obviously a "greater fool" trade. Good luck.
