Track your health and fitness goals with Google Health

Set health and fitness goals in the Google Health app to stay motivated and check your progress throughout the day.

Using the Google Health app for health and fitness goals

Important: This feature offers general guidance supporting your fitness journey. If you have cardiovascular, metabolic, or renal disease, or are unaccustomed to strenuous activity, consult a doctor before starting any Google Health exercise program. You should consider seeking medical clearance before participating in any exercise program offered by the Google Health Service.

Fitness activities

In the Fitness tab, you can explore the workout video library, track various activities, and explore comprehensive fitness metrics like weekly cardio load. If you have Google Health Premium, the Fitness tab is also home to the personalized weekly fitness plan you create with your Google Health Coach.

Review your progress
  • Recent activities: Find a summary of your latest exercises in the Fitness tab.
  • Key metrics: Monitor your daily steps and overall fitness trends, such as your weekly cardio load.
  • Leaderboard: Stay motivated by seeing how you rank against friends and the Google Health community.
Set or change your Google Health goals
  1. Open the Google Health app  and tap the Health tab .
  2. Scroll to “Personal info” and tap Goals.
  3. Tap the goal you want to edit.
  4. Edit the value of the desired goal and tap Set goal.
Check your weekly cardio target

To provide flexible training guidance, the Google Health app uses a personalized weekly cardio target.

  • Track your progress: On the Today tab, your weekly cardio ring closes as you earn cardio load. The ring displays your daily contribution and overall weekly percentage.
  • Flexibility: A weekly target allows you to adjust your activity day-to-day. If you miss a workout, you can make up the load later in the week.
  • Personalization: Your target is typically based on your average cardio load from the last 4 weeks. For Google Health Premium members, your Google Health Coach dynamically sets this target based on your current Training Focus (Recovery, Maintain, or Build).
  • Requirement: You’ll receive your first personalized weekly target after wearing your device and earning cardio load for at least 7 days.
Tip: For new users, your personalized weekly target could take up to 14 days depending on when you started.
Explore the workout library

Explore a library of videos and structured routines to keep your routine fresh.

  • Workout categories: Browse and complete workouts across multiple categories.
  • Saved workouts: Find your favorite videos and custom routines you’ve created in the "Saved" section.
  • Premium content (Premium only): Access to additional categories like Yoga and Mobility and recovery requires a Premium subscription.
Choose a daily stat as your main goal on your device

The default goal is to take 10,000 steps per day. Choose to change the number of steps or pick a different activity goal depending on your device. When you reach your goal, your device flashes and vibrates. Here’s more information on what activity goals can be tracked on each device.

Track your fitness goals with personalized guidance (Google Health Premium only)

The Google Health Coach is included with Google Health Premium. The coach provides personalized guidance on how to reach your fitness goals. To begin, visit Get started with the Google Health Coach. After you’re signed up, you can take the following actions to customize your Google Health experience.

Adjust your plan & workouts conversationally or manually (Premium only)

You can adjust your plan, targets, and workouts at any time by talking to the coach directly or selecting the “Adjust” buttons.

  1. Make changes

For a flexible experience, you can talk to the coach directly to request changes in your own words. You can also tap Make changes on the Fitness tab. Talking to the coach is best for adjusting to real-life situations, such as:

    • “I’m traveling this week, can we adjust my plan accordingly?”
    • "The treadmill is busy today"
    • "I've injured my foot"
    • "Make this workout longer" or "make it easier"
  2. Adjust a specific workout

To change one workout recommended by the coach, talk to your coach about the change. You can also tap Adjust on the workout overview screen.

You can also manually edit your workouts:

  • Movement details: Change the reps, sets, weights, or duration.
  • Exercise list: Add, reorder, or delete individual exercises.
Important: Do not rely on the coach to determine the safety of an exercise if you're in pain. Seek professional advice as needed.
