Starting on September 2, 2026, there will be changes to usage limits for Gemini Notebook. Learn more about these changes below.
Starting on September 2, 2026, Gemini Notebook will have compute-based usage limits that determine how much you can interact with features. The limits factor the complexity of your prompt, the models and features you use, the length of your chat and specific features. If you’ve hit your usage limits, you can come back later as the quota refreshes every 5 hours until you reach your weekly limit, or upgrade Gemini Notebook to get higher AI limits.

Gemini Notebook access and limits
Important:
- Gemini Notebook limits may change. Access is subject to change or may be limited based on testing, experimentation, or availability.
- Gemini Notebook usage limits are designed to ensure an optimal experience for everyone. This means we may at times have to cap the number of prompts and conversations you can have, or how much you can use some features, within a specific timeframe.

Check your AI usage & weekly limit
- On your device, open Gemini Notebook.
- At the top right, select Settings

Other places where usage limits appear
- Gemini Notebook chat: At the bottom of the chat, a message shows your remaining usage and when your limit refreshes. For example:
- “You're almost at your AI usage limit. Limit resets at 3:00 PM."
- “Limit reached. All features are available after 3:00 PM.”
- Studio generation: At the bottom, Gemini Notebook shows expected AI usage cost. The more the bar is filled in, the higher the expected cost.
Generate later in Gemini Notebook
Important: This feature is currently only available on the web.
When you are out of AI limits, you can now delay generations for later. Generating later may take a couple hours but you will be notified if you have notifications enabled.
- On your device, open Gemini Notebook.
- In the “Studio panel,” select an artifact.
- At the bottom, select Generate later.
Upgrade to higher usage limits in Gemini Notebook
If you do not want to wait for your limit to refresh, you can upgrade your Google AI subscription plan.
- On your device, open Gemini Notebook.
- In chat or studio generation, select Upgrade.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
