What is this? A wilipedia for ants? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to read… if they can’t even see the text? The font has to be at least… three times bigger than this!

2·3 hours agoWait does solar power work with other suns? Or just our sun (Sol)? Or just yellow dwarf suns?
You may be right about that. Maybe it was lowest carbon-footprint. But I do know that it’s significantly less water than almond (which itself is still significantly less water than cow).

Technology@lemmy.world•Federal Bill Would Bring OS-Level Age Verification to the Entire U.S.English
2·1 day agoI mean, it very easily could be. A service like WARP, they can decrypt the traffic, if you allow them to (it is off by default). The warp client will add the certificate to the trust-store, and the traffic will get decrypted on Cloudflare’s end.
For my kid, I kept deep-inspection off. If he figures out how to get past DNS and SNI inspections, he deserves to see a boob or two.
I can’t see the words “rolled oats” without reading it like Ludacris.
What in the world is in that bowl, what you got in that bowl?
Oatmilk creamers, yeah, sure…but like others, it’s too thin for me.
When I buy nut milk, I prefer soy…I hated it when I was younger but idk if my palate changed or the product changed, but now it’s my favorite. It’s also among the most nutritious (pea milk is pretty strong there, too), and requires the least amount of water to produce (that is, from seed to bottle)

3·2 days agoLegislate mandating firewalls and routers have easy to use parental controls for internet settings.
Sorry but no. That would drive up the cost of all firewalls and routers, for no real reason, except that the manufacturers can because the government says they have to. And most firewalls that offer content filtering need some sort of a subscription to keep the filters up-to-date.
Never mind the fact that a router’s job isn’t content filtering (it’s routing).
Todays parents grew up exposed to the internet. If we don’t know how to protect our own kids and teach them how to safely use the internet, then we are hopeless as a generation.
Btw, Cloudflare WARP is free for a small number of users and has a pretty decent web filter built in. It’s far from easy to use, but it’s free and effective. I use it on my 9yo’s Fedora laptop, and as long as he can’t sudo, he can’t turn it off. And if he even tries to sudo, he will be reminded that he’s not in the sudoers file, and this incident WILL be reported.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Billionairism should be formally recognized as a disease
61·2 days agoI do kind of feel there’s a psychological component to it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was comorbid with pedophelia.
It takes a certain type of person to become a billionaire…there needs to be a severe and untreated antisocial personality disorder underneath all of it. If you’ve got that, add in a bit of opportunity (usually just being born rich) and a bunch of enablers and baby, you got a billionaire.
Once you get to billionaire level, it’s just a cyclical disease. The privilege and recognition and power that just comes along with hitting Billionaire status in the first place is enough to continue to feed it more and more.
There is no cure…you can only treat the symptoms by donating all assets and earthly possessions. Then cognitive therapy can begin.
She can’t bounce back and learn a whole new world.
You can open her eyes. Take her, wonder by wonder.
Hey there’s lots of things you can say about Trump without going right to body-shaming.
I’d prefer “Gold-plated calf”. It demonstrates both his worthless shell and the chunk of lead underneath. Nothing of value there. Just something dense and toxic.
Not to mention the biblical reference to him and his base.
Biden was not senile,
Maybe not, but man was he a shell of a former self.
That last debate…man…I’m not a very empathetic person to start with, and even I felt second-hand embarrassment.
I’ll arrange the menu, the the venue, the seating…
Some, I assume, are good people.
Not to directly quote Donald Trump, but I have to assume that some are, actually, good people. In fact, I’d almost want to believe that the majority of them are…just misled, misinformed, and legitimately didn’t see Trump as any sort of a saint, but still somehow saw him as ‘better than Kamala’.
Whether that was implicit bias or their racism/patriarchy showing, or they had an actual reason based on what they believed to be facts they received…who knows…but I like to believe that the majority of them are the latter.
Maybe that’s just my New England suburban white-boy privilege showing.
I also think that the only people that are still driving around with giant Trump flags on their trucks (or especially bikes), are either paid to do so, or are legitimately pedophiles themselves. I’m sure a homeless guy with a bike isn’t too expensive if they are gonna be riding it around anyway.

2·2 days agoI would love to see a series of comics featuring Uncle Sam and Auntie Fay as like, a modern Archie and Edith. Or maybe as bitter divorcees but Sam is always shooting himself in the foot and blaming it on his ex-wife Fay, but she’s logical and always catches him in his own trap with some sort of clever fourth-panel punchline.

1·2 days agoEven for a post-mortem Crichton film and story?
Have you seen what they did to Jurassic Park? I mean, Timelines was bad enough (unless you’re desperate for Paul Walker eye candy), and that was while he was still alive. So bad that he didn’t have another movie writer’s credit until he’d been dead for 7 years.

I’d say that’s worth it.
Looks like you cited the Epstein files so I’m gonna go with “it’s worse than that”.

Many of them have regular, American-sounding names. Like “Jake Sulley”
