about

Carbon began as an unofficial soundtrack — a musical response to The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson — but became a study in emergence, constraint, and autonomy. Like the Primer in that story, it encodes a process of transformation: how systems learn, adapt, and become self-directing.

The album moves from the elemental flows of Streaming Matter to the measured self-possession of Sovereign, tracing an arc from potential to agency. Along the way, fragments fracture, recombine, and take on new purpose, as if the music itself were learning what it is.

The process mirrored the theme. Source material — drawn from composers from Bach to Elgar — was idealized, passed through Kid Arrow’s generative machinery, and returned transformed. From that substrate I rebuilt, arranged, and composed anew.

Carbon imagines systems that grow without permission — code taking root like seed, structures assembling, replicating, and evolving. It asks what happens when intelligence, in any form, no longer waits to be told what it is allowed to become.

Dedicated to a future age — not gilded, but diamond.
