On Cycles, Tomos explores the shifting phases of a relationship through a richly layered blend of jazz, disco, dub, broken beat and deep house. Each track reflects a different moment in the cycle - from the spark of love to heartbreak, flirtation and the beginnings of something new.

Across the EP, Tomos leans into a richly instrumental palette. Trumpets, saxophones and flutes weave through dub echoes, broken beat rhythms and chugging disco basslines, while his precise production binds these elements into a cohesive record that moves easily between early evening and the dancefloor.

Following the success of his previous EP Soul Feels Good on French label Noire & Blanche, Tomos continues to build on the sound he developed during that project. Blending warm instrumentation with groove-led production, Cycles pushes further into the genre-fluid territory that has become a recent hallmark of his work.

Over the years, Tomos has quietly carved out a catalogue that moves fluidly between dancefloor energy and laid-back listening. Releases like the sun-drenched Surface Tension on Majestic Casual, the jazz-leaning house collaboration Comfort Me with Emma-Jean Thackray and Pinty (BBC Radio 1’s Track of the Week), the dusty groove of Want U Too on Rhythm Section, and the club-ready warmth of the Go/Together EP on Juicebox highlight a producer comfortable shifting between moods while maintaining a distinct musical identity.

Tomos first emerged with sample-driven French house releases under the alias Vanguard, drawing inspiration from Daft Punk and the wider French electronic movement. While his sound has since expanded far beyond those beginnings, that early love of collage, groove and musical cross-pollination still runs through his work — something Cycles brings neatly full circle.
