I suspect that’s much harder to do if you are one of the people your nation is trying to kill, deport or enslave.

At least in my experience, that behavior was easily squashed via the customization blurb in the settings. When I talk to my ai client, I don’t get accolades, pandering or attaboys. It just tells me if if thinks my idea will work(it often points out my failures in logic) or answers the question I ask in a conversational tone. Since it provides links to all sources used in the answer, it’s easy for me to read up on what it used and decide if it’s a solid foundation of info.

Could you expand on your thoughts? Are you speaking of the people using ai as a therapist or confidant? I wouldn’t but, at least in the US, younger people have been priced out of professional care.

Aside from that, many have ended up in a hostile country so casual smalltalk with randos has become much less appealing.

I can see the appeal of eschewing society as a whole in favor of a bot that I know won’t ask me my political or religious leanings and then tailor their behavior around my answer.

I scrolled through months of the community’s feed and only one post author is posting the content many are being made to feel unsafe by. The Lemmy block system is great at blocking a single user. In this particular case, no more sophisticated filtering system is needed.

I do understand that many scenarios are more complex but this is not one of those instances.

Of course they do. That was literally my point. Musk didn’t bother to hide it so we don’t need new studies to show that’s how they operate.

There are apps that block third party ads and trackers in most apps(Rethink DNS, Adguard) but some apps like facebook, youtube, etc use app tunneling to keep another app from being able to manipulate it’s traffic.

Absolutely nobody needed a new study to show the risks. We all saw what could happen as Musk altered Grok to behave in manners that he approved of.

Wow, I’m really sorry you went through that but it makes me want to suggest using something like privacy.com for future subscriptions and purchases. You can create virtual cards that you can make merchant locked(so if a scammer got the number, they couldn’t run it), one-time use, and with a total or monthly limit. In this case, you could have simply paused or canceled the card you used for of as you were being told you needed to write a letter. I’ve used it for years in this manner and I’ve never paid a dime for the service, their free tier provides everything I need.

I think they take a ton of heat on it and most employees just don’t even try when you come in to cancel. Two out of three PF accounts in our house were canceled at different times and both times, the person behind the counter didn’t ask a single question, just wiped the account and told us to have a great day.

Went from one billionaire’s pet project to another’s and am shocked… SHOCKED, I say! That it’s the same drivel and slop.

I do play with it every once in a while but if it’s not problematic setting up or there are some settings that don’t work correctly, invariably, there will eventually come a game update that breaks it on linux.

For all it’s flaws, the games I play have never needed more than an install in Windows. I know that may not be the case for all games, I can only speak to the games I enjoy playing.

I have used it since the 90s as my main machine and have nothing but love for it but Linux is not there yet for my gaming needs.

As long as it continues to play my games without issue, I couldn’t care less what they do with it. I use a second machine with a KVM switch; Windows runs games only and the second machine running linux does absolutely everything else. Installing fresh, blocking telemetry and blackholing windows update domains has worked fantastically for years.
