Being the only girl in a house of four children, my youngest brother being mildly autistic, I have naturally grown into a very nurturing, caring person. I also understand the need for help when it comes to caring for children, and that it is in fact a Job. I am currently a part time Nanny & Housekeeper.
Five Stars — And I Mean Every One of Them I found Dominique on Care.com on April 7th, 2021. It was 6:00 in the morning. That detail matters, because that's how desperate the situation was. My wife at the time was about to be stationed in Virginia for a couple of years, and I was a single dad in everything but name. I needed someone I could trust with my kids. Not just competent. Trustworthy. I ran the care.com BG check before the sun came up. It came back clean. We set up an interview. I couldn't make it. My ex-wife took our youngest, C, and went without me. When she came home, her words were simple: *I absolutely love her. She seems responsible, down-to-earth, and she connected with C immediately.* That was all I needed to hear. We hired Dominique. She hit the ground running: school pickups, practices, drop-offs. When I started pulling longer shifts at work and couldn't get home in time to make dinner, I started ordering meal kits. Dominique would bring the kids home and cook those meals so they'd have food on the table before I walked through the door. She didn't have to do that. That wasn't in the job description. She just did it, because she understood what the situation called for. That's who Dominique is. The kids got attached fast, and honestly, how could they not? She's funny, she's current, she watches cartoons with them and talks K-pop and Korean dramas. They didn't just tolerate her presence. They wanted her around. They still do. Five years later, S and C are older. They don't need the same kind of care they did back in elementary school. But they still ask about Dominique. Sometimes we arrange for her to just spend a day with them: grab lunch, hang out, reconnect. That's not a nanny. That's someone who becomes part of the fabric of your family without you even realizing it was happening. I'll say this plainly: Dominique didn't just fill a role. She filled gaps I didn't even know I had. The button or pillow that needed sewing while she waited for me to get home, I'm not saying she'll do that for you, but I'm saying she's the kind of person who sees what needs doing and does it. That kind of presence let me keep my focus at work, knowing my kids were covered and my household hadn't fallen apart. I'm not on Care.com looking for a nanny anymore, so it hadn't crossed my mind to come back and write this. But Dominique is still here on the site, and she's looking for her next family. That felt like something I couldn't leave unanswered. If you're reading this review: hire her. Not because it'll work out fine. Because it'll work out better than you expected, and you'll find yourself, five years later, still grateful you made that call.
