PRESENTED BY FILIPE PEREZ
'Blossom' is ephemeral, that sudden unexpected moment when the drive for transformation emerges as the only and most natural way ahead to the Mali’s debut as a songwriter. Recognized as an accomplished bassist the young Paulista now embarks on a new phase as a singer and songwriter.
In the EP Blossom of her own creation, Mali plays the bass and sings on all tracks, revealing a distinct, strong personal signature. The album presents partnerships with fellow musicians from Sao Paulo, Tokyo and New York, where the project was first conceived. Each track was the work of a different producer: Pipo Pegoraro, Luizão Cavalcante, Takuya Nakamura, Daniel Cohen, Ettiene Stadwijk.
Her simple and creative rhythmic bassline, permeates the rich, delicate bluesy melody. The sonority is modern, the language consistent and the whole work is finalized at the highest level. The lyrics display an existential touch, but are always creative, light-hearted, and easy going. The sound is pulsating and offers great moments.
Mali Sampaio has been a bassist since she was a teenager and played in different bands with the most varied styles: Rock, Jazz, Gafieira and other regional Brazilian rhythms. She has played with artists such as Xênia França, Carlos Franco, Kadu Ayala and Carlos Darcy de Seixas, among others.
In 2010, while in New York, she played alongside world-class musicians such as conductor Butch Morris, Takuya Nakamura, Kenny Wollesen, Ilhan Ersahin and McLin Ladell.
In 2013 she returned to Brazil inspired and determined to start her solo carrier as a singer. The new project received prompt support and incentive from recognized musicians and has been gaining steady ground as well as a keen audience.
