These stunning images show a magnificent kingfisher diving effortlessly into a river to catch food for its young. The brightly-coloured bird plunges into the water at high speed before resurfacing seconds later with a fish in its mouth. It then spins its unsuspecting prey around in its beak before delivering the fish safely to its hungry chicks waiting nearby. Photographer Alan McFayden was on hand to capture the moment in Kirkcudbright, south west Scotland, on Friday.
