37 years ago, on this day, June 25, 1983, India lifted its first World Cup. In the final Kapil Dev’s men defeated Clive Lloyd’s side who were eyeing a hat-trick of World Cup titles. In a low-scoring final, West Indies, set a target of 184, emerged victorious by 43 runs. India, the underdogs, were least favourites to win the final but they ended up stunning mighty West Indies.
