The video was filmed over three days in suburbs of Los Angeles, California. The school scenes (including the track and meet) were filmed at John Marshall High School, the same school where Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher" (1984) video, and the final carnival scene from "Grease" (1978) were filmed, while the residential scenes were filmed in Westwood.

In the Garth Brooks music video for "Standing Outside the Fire" (1993) directed by Jon Small and produced by Small/Riffle, we meet a high school student with down syndrome named Brandon, who does not participate in the institution's Special Olympics, instead, Brandon signs up for the regular event. There is much stride between Brandon's parents, conserving whether or not he should be allowed to do this. The father is strongly opposed, but the mother believes the father disapproves.
