Newcastle United transfer news as Leeds United 'close in' on Karl Darlow deal

Joe Buck brings you all the latest transfer news surrounding Newcastle United as Karl Darlow looks set to join Championship side Leeds United.

00:05 Gazette. Now in terms of outgoings at the club, we've recently seen Karl Darlow linked

00:11 with the move away from Newcastle and you know, reports very recently have suggested

00:15 that Ellen Rose will be his destination next year. Now Darlow spent the second half of

00:20 last season on loan at Hull City, impressed by all accounts, you know, won that play of

00:24 the month for March and you know, put in a very, very good set of performances, you know,

00:30 in a difficult time for him obviously, seeing his position as in Newcastle's number one

00:34 slip behind Martin De Bravka and then again when Nick Pope joined the club. So he's probably

00:38 the third or fourth choice keeper at the end of last season and that will be the same,

00:42 you know, this year if he stayed at the club. But it's clear that, you know, he was going

00:45 to get moved on and Bournemouth were interested but it appears that Leeds are the ones who

00:49 are, you know, in advance talks of signing him. I think it's a good move for all involved.

00:52 Leeds obviously got Elan Mellier in goal and he, you know, is a very young keeper, he's

00:57 got a bright future in the game, a lot to learn. I think Darlow will come in and act

01:00 as great competition and maybe even their starting keeper, you know, we saw how well

01:03 he was, how well he played in the Championship for Newcastle during that season. So I think

01:07 it's a good move for him. There was talk about Bournemouth being interested in Darlow and

01:12 there was reports where they, you know, vitality seeded on Ellen Rose but Bournemouth have

01:17 recently agreed a deal for Andre Radu from Inter Milan so that's, you know, that's sped

01:22 up Darlow's move to Leeds rather than Bournemouth. You know, they've clearly got other options

01:28 there but as I said, for Darlow it would be a shame to see him leave, you know, he's been

01:30 a very good servant for the club since joining initially in 2014 and then again in 2015,

01:36 you know. Plenty of memories, plenty of, you know, very good saves he's made, everyone

01:39 remembers that double penalty save against Nottingham Forest's old team. But the club,

01:44 like St Maximin, the deal finalist at St Maximin, they've got to move on, they've got to sell

01:46 players and Darlow seems like someone who, you know, the club can move on this summer

01:51 now, they'll get him off his wage books and so unfortunately he won't play a part in Newcastle

01:55 next season but, you know, he should be remembered for what an excellent servant he's been and
