A street art exhibition in Digbeth is hoping to spark conversations, and get people thinking about the issues currently facing society.

00:03 The expedition's called Art of the Street,

00:08 and under title of The Broken Crane.

00:10 What the piece is titled is Shouting at the World.

00:14 And what our piece is about, Nick,

00:16 is basically bringing graffiti artists and bringing them

00:20 together, bringing collections together,

00:22 bringing local painters together,

00:24 and giving them a space.

00:25 Our space is also about sending messages.

00:28 We are mixing light, sound, immersive theater

00:32 with graffiti and a gallery.

00:35 There's no concept.

00:38 And that's what we like to think.

00:39 We're creating a new space, but a space that will hopefully

00:43 do some good, but a space for everyone.

00:47 With regards to how our work connects to social issues,

00:52 basically we have pieces that are displaying messages

00:55 like we can fund a war, but we can't feed the hungry.

00:59 These are messages that I find are so

01:01 important to today's society.

01:04 We have other messages like the Ukraine piece,

01:08 the sort of walled off Banksy room.

01:10 It gives you a little bit of a history

01:12 other than the piece of artwork.

01:14 But what we are wanting to do is yet again

01:17 is send them messages, is bring that pure plight

01:22 of a lost society.

01:24 We want to give them a voice.

01:25 They can come here.

01:26 It's free.

01:27 Anyone can come here.

01:28 Our artwork connects to people on many levels,

01:31 whether it be inspiration, expression.

01:35 And our artwork will send messages.

01:37 Hopefully, hopefully then when you

01:39 leave the space, these messages will help you make

01:42 you think a little bit different.

01:46 Some pieces we have local guys.

01:48 We have the likes of Moe's, Hoaxer, Lisk, Misfit, Chunks.

01:54 These are all high end, very professional graffiti artists,

01:59 graph artists, artists in general.

02:02 People who use a can with magic air

02:05 to create a piece that looks like it's

02:07 done by a Renaissance artist.

02:10 If we don't have art, what do we have?

02:13 We have no voice.

02:14 Yes, we have poetry.

02:15 Yes, we have books.

02:17 But yet again, people like myself

02:19 are incredibly dyslexic.

02:21 We find books and that incredibly painful to read

02:26 might be a word.

02:27 But with art, you can absorb it.

02:29 You can create your own issues.

02:30 You can create your own images.

02:32 You can take away from that what you want.

02:34 You can create a whole world around a piece.

02:36 And that, for me, is what makes art so special.

02:39 Art of the Street is based at Centrella in Digbeth,

02:42 the custard factory.

02:44 The heart and the soul of graffiti is Graffiti City.

02:47 And that's due to the beautiful people of the custard factory,

02:50 like Benny Green, et cetera, and Zellix,

02:52 providing us all space to paint.

02:54 If you arrive between Wednesday and Saturday

02:56 in the hours of 12 to 6 at Centrella in the custard

02:59 factory, hopefully you'll have an experience like you've

03:02 never experienced before.
