In usual fashion, the start to what is now the country's 61st year of Independence, was celebrated through a spectacular parade at the Queens Park Savannah.
Reporter Alicia Boucher and Cameraman Immanuel Nunez have the highlights.

00:19 Cohen Garcia, and finally President Christine Kangaloo arrived in full view of spectators.

00:49 therefore it was a momentous occasion as she inspected the parade.

01:27 Helicopters, motorcycles, trucks and some other pieces of very heavy machinery belonging
01:39 to various arms of the protective and essential services made their way across the Queens

01:46 In what is a rare setting, members of the opposition who were present in the audience
01:52 shook hands with government ministers.
01:54 It was all part of the celebration of the 61st year of independence for the country.
