00:00 on the spot.
00:07 Well a very good morning Trinidad and Tobago. You're viewing the TV6 News on
00:16 the spot. We're coming to you live
00:18 from the National Academy of the Performing Arts where the ceremonial
00:23 opening of the law term is taking place. What I can tell you
00:27 is that dignitaries have already arrived and they have congregated
00:31 inside Napa where we expect that the church service is already taking place.
00:37 Now just to remind our viewers this morning's opening is a bit different
00:42 from those in pre-COVID times. As you would remember church service would
00:46 usually take place at the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Then members of the
00:51 judiciary led by Chief Justice Ivor Archie would make their way to the Hall
00:55 of Justice where he would give where the first sitting of the law term would take
01:00 place and he would usually give a speech. Now as I mentioned this morning is a
01:05 little bit different. We are here at Napa. The church service is taking place
01:10 here inside of Napa. Now the judiciary has cited crime, safety and health
01:16 concerns and therefore our cameras, well independent media houses, their cameras
01:21 have not been allowed inside. Just state videographers will be carrying these
01:26 proceedings live. What can we expect? Well after the church service Chief
01:32 Justice Ivor Archie would in fact deliver his speech. What can we expect
01:36 from his speech? Well the Chief Justice usually recaps the past law term and
01:42 gives expectations and sets goals for the upcoming law term as it relates to
01:48 the disposition of cases. Well will the Chief Justice respond to concerns made
01:54 both locally and regionally that the judiciary is partly responsible for the
02:00 level of crime in this country? Well we will just have to wait to see. Now after
02:05 he gives his speech the Chief Justice is expected to come outside and view the
02:11 Guard of Honor, inspect the Guard of Honor which will be at Memorial
02:16 Park and as such there are traffic restrictions in place and they will
02:20 carry over until just about 2 o'clock. Now you can continue viewing TV6. We'll
02:27 continue to bring you updates as they continue to unravel and of course be
02:31 viewing our 7 p.m. news where we'll bring you a full story of today's events.
02:36 Just to remind our viewers opposition leader Kamala Prasad-Bissett says she
02:40 will deliver her response to Finance Minister Kom Imbert's budget
02:44 presentation made just Monday. We will be carrying that live on TV6 so continue
02:50 to view TV6 for that at just about 1.30 p.m. Well that's a wrap of the
02:56 proceedings here from me I'm Urvashi Tewari Rupnurayan coming to you live
03:00 from the National Academy of the Performing Arts.
