00:00 Actually the first time I flew on a little plane is back in high school time.

00:05 At that time I remember there is a retired training captain in that town looking for a

00:12 person who will help him out to paint the plane for him. And I said, "Oh I don't want money,

00:18 can you take me out for flying?" And then that is the first time I ever really flown in the sky.

00:25 Hello everyone, I'm Christine Ho, currently a commercial airline pilot working for Cathay

00:38 Pacific Airways. I grew up in Hong Kong, a very traditional family and studied in a traditional

00:45 school. But I really, really like art. So I graduated with this major and then became a

00:51 fashion designer. And then after a couple of years I thought, as a young woman where should I go next?

00:58 And I saw the airline recruiting and seeing a poster from airline having a male pilot on it

01:09 and a female cabin crew on it. Once I decided to become a pilot, then I remember a person,

01:18 a mentor, a very important mentor in my life. So I thought of this mentor and then I went back

01:26 and I actually called him and said, "Oh now after so many years I decided to be a pilot,

01:35 can I come back to your Pacific Airfield to become a volunteer just to know about your

01:41 industry as I don't know too much about it?" And then he said yes. So after that I applied for the

01:49 applied through the cadet training program and then through the company and through the training,

01:58 the intensive training and then and come back for some more trainings in the simulator and

02:05 in real plane and then finally became a commercial airline pilot.

02:09 I would say from the history female pilot is actually a minority in this male-dominated world

02:21 but we have been doing a lot to improve that. And I think the first thing that you really face

02:30 during the challenge is when I start wanting to become a pilot, you start to tell people about it

02:37 so you may receive some of the message that is not that positive and it is easily to drag you down

02:46 but I would say just believe in yourself and ask the right questions. Especially I remember when I

02:55 see that flight deck, even the two pilots in front of me is a male pilot, I would encourage

03:03 girls no matter is it becoming a pilot or going into the field that they want,

03:11 just have to believe in yourself and believe that you will also be able to meet the same standard.

03:21 I have so much faith in our new young generations, especially during this time that I have

03:28 been invited to different schools and companies and I have been seeing them how great they are

03:35 and I believe so much in them and I just want to be continuously, sustainably continue to

03:42 encourage them, telling them that they're great and they have so much opportunity in front of them

03:49 and don't underestimate themselves or their ability and want them to really try their best

03:59 to find their own happiness and own path of career and also give back to the community.

04:05 And I grew up in Hong Kong and spent years in the United States but definitely

04:14 treated Hong Kong as home and loving this city and thinking that I belong here and belongs to this company.
