The Ministry of Health will issue a statement on AstraZeneca in the near future.
00:06
Please be patient.
00:07
Zalqifli said this after attending the Clinical Research Malaysia,
00:11
CRM Trial Connect 2024 on Thursday.
00:14
His response was to a question about the Health Ministry's plan
00:18
to seek clarification from AstraZeneca over the reported side effects of its COVID-19 vaccine,
00:23
following recent reports in the foreign press.
00:27
On May 5, Indonesia's National Commission for the Study and Prevention of Adverse Events
00:32
Following Immunization, along with its Health Ministry and Food and Drug Authority,
00:37
announced that there were no cases of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome
00:42
TTS linked to the AstraZeneca vaccine in Indonesia.
00:46
Earlier, international media reported that AstraZeneca admitted in court documents
00:50
that its COVID-19 vaccine could cause rare side effects.
00:55
The company is facing lawsuits with 51 cases in the UK High Court,
01:00
alleging that the vaccine could cause death or severe injury,
01:03
with claims totaling almost £100 million sterling or equivalent to approximately R595 million.
01:11
On May 2, Zalqifli said his ministry would continue to monitor and deal with the matter
01:16
based on evidence of symptoms, in addition to having clinical guidelines to treat affected
01:21
individuals. He stressed that AstraZeneca must address safety concerns and provide a clear
01:27
explanation to both Malaysia and the global community,
01:30
even though the risk of side effects from the vaccine is relatively low.
