The NSW government has just delivered on a pre-election promise- and opened a new centre for domestic violence support in one of Sydney’s most diverse areas.

00:06 the state's first multicultural centre for women's and family safety.

00:12 Located in Fairfield in South West Sydney, the centre was officially opened by Deputy

00:17 Premier Pru Kha and Minister for Women Jodie Harrison.

00:21 Centre organisers say the facility is essential in order to help women who have fallen through

00:25 the gaps of other services, particularly those of which speak little to no English or face

00:30 cultural restrictions.

00:33 The Deputy Premier echoes this sentiment and says the centre is an essential part of the

00:37 Government's long-term plan to combat domestic violence.

00:41 If we are going to do something about this emergency in this state of domestic and family

00:46 violence then we need to make sure that all women are safe and that we are providing resources

00:51 and support to women, including culturally and linguistically diverse women, in a way

00:57 that is culturally appropriate for them and meets them where they are.

01:01 The opening follows a $230 million assistance program for victim survivors of domestic violence

01:08 announced by the state government earlier this week.
