Welcome to the Arbys Mall Sportsground in Paddington. This year is the 75th anniversary
00:07
of this sportsground being opened back in 1949. The sports club are the actual trustees
00:13
for the site and have been over the years and we decided to celebrate the 75th anniversary
00:18
by making some improvements to the ground and putting on a festival at the end of it
00:21
to show people how lucky they were to have a facility like this and what we've done in
00:26
the last 18 months to improve what we had at the time. The sportsground is a living
00:32
memorial for the people that died during the second world war. It was opened in 1949 and
00:37
ever since then the football club and the cricket club have been based up here and they
00:41
play the home fixtures up here. So it's been very good for the sports club to be able to
00:45
take part in making sure that this facility is not only something that's been used for
00:50
the last 75 years but can be used again for the next 75 years. What we hope and hope is
00:55
that the people of Paddington appreciate what we've got and they support the activities
00:58
that take place at the sports ground. The sports club was formed in 1947. It was formed
01:04
to bring sport back to the town after the second world war and that's what it's done
01:08
ever since. It's been the trustees that's looked after the site and supported both football
01:12
and cricket and different community activities that take place on this facility.
