00:00Two fishermen shared accounts of their vessels colliding with a larger boat at the Caranage
00:06during the storm.
00:08One of them managed to salvage only the engine, while the other is now contemplating the daunting
00:14task of rebuilding his boat.
00:17This boat is the one who pushed it on the shore.
00:20That big blue and white one you see alongside the big steel boat over there.
00:23I know definitely they never went and fixed the boat.
00:26My boat was packed up, you see where this boat right here is now, that black one thing
00:31boat there.
00:32My boat was packed up right here.
00:34So that boat when it get away from over there, it come inside and it pushed my boat in the
00:38canal here.
00:39It was tied up onto my boat.
00:40The way it set me back, right back, the boat marshalled back, the boat salvaged my boat.
00:43I talked to those guys and they tell me that it's a disaster, they don't meddle about that.
00:47That's what they tell me yesterday.
00:48I got a call stating, oh your boat's sinking.
00:51So I came down the road, saw the guys was assisting me.
00:53I want to make sure that I moored down properly.
00:56So you know, to the best of my ability.
00:59I understand he was doing well, but one of those, I think this one, came and busted mooring
01:06line or whatever.
01:07They came colliding to the, so that's the end result.
01:10Attorney and boat owner Anselm Clowden was also among those significantly affected.
01:17His sailboat moored at the Porth Authority, was completely submerged by water, adding
01:23to the tally of losses suffered by the maritime community.
01:27I thought the Port Authority moored was sufficiently secured, but with those gale force winds and
01:36that wayward lady, with all that rain and wind and her bunching against the caranage,
01:50it may have affected her, there may have been a hole in the hull.
01:56Crystal Young from LTD Sailing and Yacht Brokerage reported substantial damage to four boats
02:03docked at Prickly Bay Marina in Lansapine.
02:07On that beach over there, there's three boats, four boats that are halfway sunken to the
02:11sand and they've got some major damage.
02:14And that was usually done by them hitting all the other boats to get there.
02:17I know of two of the owners and they've been contacted already.
02:20Amidst the tales of devastation, stories of resilience emerge.
02:25GBN spoke with an American couple visiting Grenada for the first time, who found refuge
02:32from the storm at the Calabash Hotel in Lansapine.
02:36They expressed relief at having weathered the hurricane safely amid the turmoil.
02:42The staff at the hotel were really fantastic.
02:44They stayed right until the end.
02:46They stayed calm.
02:47They were very well prepared.
02:49And the level of service and dedication that they showed was extremely professional.
02:53So yeah, we had a fairly easy ride of the storm.
02:57We were safe, tucked up indoors.
02:59We didn't have any power loss.
03:01Category four is a serious storm.
03:03But we arrived and we expected the storm to turn away, but it didn't.
03:07So we were fortunate to be at a location that was fortified.
03:13They rebuilt years ago for hurricane-strength storms and we just prayed and everything worked
03:18out.
03:19I think we just lucked out.
03:20The goal was on a two-week vacation, one week sailing, learning to sail, and then a week
03:25on the island.
03:27So hopefully by the time we come back from our sail, things will be cleaned up a little
03:31bit more.
03:32State of emergency may be relieved.
03:33As recovery efforts commence, the community is coming together to assess damages, initiate
03:40repairs and provide support to those impacted by this latest natural disaster.
03:47Reporting for GBN News, I'm Nisha Paul.
