Domestic abuse: Rise in cases with no police action taken

Reports show there is a rise in domestic abuse cases with no police action.

00:00New research has found that there has been a rise in domestic abuse cases where no police

00:07The investigation, which was carried out by Sky News, found that it is becoming more and

00:12more common for victims of domestic abuse to have their investigation closed against

00:17their wishes due to what has been referred to as evidential difficulties.

00:21Evidential difficulties is described by the Home Office as a crime which is confirmed

00:26and the victim supports police action but evidential difficulties prevent further action.

00:31Experts have weighed in on this topic and have said that this has a profoundly negative

00:36impact on victims' safety.

00:38Some victims have said that they felt let down by the police force and that they weren't

00:42expecting this outcome.

00:44Amy Boudry, a policy and public affairs officer at domestic abuse support charity Refuge,

00:50said that to know that in a large proportion of those cases the evidence is there but the

00:56police just aren't taking it seriously is really, really concerning for us.
