Cricket analyst Fazeer Mohammed is insisting that players in the region must be fed a bigger diet of first-class cricket.

His comments come in the wake of the West Indies' poor batting display, which saw them surrender the recent series 1-0 to South Africa.

00:00Following a 4-2 run loss to South Africa on day 3 of the Guyana Test, cricket analyst
00:05Fazir Mohammed is not surprised that the West Indies surrendered the series 1-0.
00:09He says it's so common seeing the Windies lose to the Proteas at test level, with the
00:13exception of the one-off test in Barbados in 1992.
00:17Having said that, Mohammed believes the batters had no excuse in making a mess of the 263
00:23set by the South Africans in the decider.
00:25What was disappointing though on the final day of this brief series was the West Indies
00:31failure to challenge that total of 263 in a significant way, and especially the manner
00:38of the dismissals of key players.
00:41The likes of Alec Athenez being undone by the spin, Jason Holder giving it away when
00:47he had just come into the creaser and indeed was an opportunity to stabilise the West Indies
00:53innings.
00:54Overall it is a common denominator when it comes to West Indies batsmanship in all formats
01:00and indeed especially at test match level where either the lack of experience or the
01:05lack of awareness of the situation results in the downfall of so many West Indies batters.
01:12Regarding the South African bowling, Mohammed is full of praise for the pacers and spinners.
01:17He says they proved to be potent without Anric Norkia, who was destructive in St Lucia in
01:222021, resulting in a 2-0 series win.
01:52Looking at the West Indies attack, the well-respected cricket guru says there are many positives
02:11despite the defeat.
02:13Coming in for praise is the man from central Trinidad, in-pacer Jaden Seals.
02:17Jaden Seals finishing with nine wickets in the match, a six-wicket hole in the South
02:22African second innings and someone with tremendous promise.
02:26If he can stay injury-free, if he can continue to show the appetite for the game and indeed
02:31reaps the rewards of all that hard work to get back into fitness, he could certainly
02:36be a long-term spearhead for the West Indies bowling attack.
02:40In 2028, the West Indies celebrate 100 years as a test playing nation.
02:46Mohammed says it's time to get extremely serious and allow the youngsters to play more
02:51red ball cricket.
02:52Well, first and foremost, the players who are part of the squad are those on the fringes
02:57have to be given more opportunity to play first class cricket, have to be given more
03:02opportunity to play red ball cricket, whether it's an expansion of the regional first class
03:07game, whether it's giving them opportunities in other countries, whether it's England or
03:11South Africa or any part of the world where they can get opportunities to play more red
03:16ball cricket.
03:17That is absolutely necessary.
03:19The Trinidad-based analyst says more incentives have to be provided to play the longer format
03:25since many are gravitating towards franchise cricket.
