According to the Education Ministry, 143 government and government-assisted schools, 57 civil
00:08
ECCE centres, 452 primary schools and 125 secondary schools were opened at the start
00:16
of academic year 2024-2025.
00:20
The Ministry states that principals and teachers return to their respective schools since August
00:25
29 to facilitate a smooth transition by students back to the classroom.
00:30
However, the Ministry says there have been partial attendance at St. George's College,
00:35
which welcomed Forms 1 and 2 for their orientation taking place over a two-day period.
00:41
But the Ministry adds, quote, the school is fully prepared to welcome the other forms
00:46
with classrooms cleaned and ready.
00:49
Minor repacking is still ongoing in the staff room, art room and a few specialty rooms,
00:55
end quote.
00:56
As it pertains to Holy Name Convent Pinal, the Education Ministry says because of ongoing
01:02
roof repairs at that school, Forms 2 and 3 will rotate attendance for the next two weeks,
01:09
but all other forms are expected to attend school in keeping with the normal schedule.
01:14
Concerning the July-August vacation repair program, the Ministry states that several
01:19
critical issues relating to infrastructure were able to be addressed, which it says allowed
01:26
for quote-unquote the safe resumption of school activities.
01:30
Nonetheless, it outlines that repair works are ongoing at over-six-day schools at this
01:35
time and additional projects will begin this month and going forward as is necessary.
01:42
The Ministry says the additional funding had to be allocated for these works due to
01:46
the 2024 allocation for emergency repairs being exceeded.
01:52
The Ministry further highlights that services provided to schools by the Public Transport
01:57
Service Corporation and the school feeding program resumed at the start of the new academic
02:02
year.
