00:00Arriving at a courthouse in Reno, Nevada, was a divided family.

00:06Among them was 93-year-old media titan Rupert Murdoch and behind him, his eldest son Lachlan

00:12Murdoch.

00:13Elizabeth, James and Prudence, three other Murdoch children, were also at the court on

00:18Monday as a battle began over who will control their father's media empire following his

00:23death.

00:25His two companies are Fox, which broadcasts Fox News, and News Corporation, which owns

00:30newspapers including Wall Street Journal in the US and The Sun in the UK.

00:35Murdoch is trying to alter the terms of his family trust, which was initially set up to

00:39hand over equal control of his businesses to his four eldest children.

00:43Now, according to the New York Times, he's attempting to ensure that Lachlan will remain

00:48in charge of his media companies.

00:51Lachlan, deemed to be ideologically akin to his conservative father, currently runs Fox

00:56and is the only chair of News Corporation.

01:00His siblings are less politically aligned with their father.

01:03James, who has endorsed Kamala Harris for president and donated to progressive political

01:08groups, stepped down from the News Corp board in 2020.

01:12He said the move was due to disagreements over editorial content.

01:16The proceedings are closed to the public and are expected to take place over the next week

01:20with testimony from the media mogul and the four children named in the trust.
