The boy who cried wolf

Once upon a time, a young boy was given the job of watching over a flock of sheep. Every day, he sat on a grassy hill, keeping an eye on the sheep as they grazed. But after a while, the boy grew bored and wanted some excitement.

One day, he jumped up and shouted, “Wolf! Wolf!” The villagers, hearing his cries, came running to help. But when they arrived, they found no wolf, only the boy laughing at his clever trick. The villagers were annoyed and told the boy not to lie before heading back to the village.

The boy, finding the prank so funny, did it again. He shouted, “Wolf! Wolf!” once more, and again the villagers rushed to his side. And once again, there was no wolf. The villagers were even more upset this time and warned him that if he continued lying, they wouldn’t believe him anymore.

Not long after, a real wolf appeared at the edge of the forest. It began creeping toward the flock of sheep. The boy, now terrified, shouted, “Wolf! Wolf!” as loudly as he could. But this time, the villagers ignored him, thinking it was just another prank.

The wolf attacked the sheep, scattering them in all directions, while the boy stood helplessly. Later, the villagers saw the scattered sheep and realized the boy had told the truth. They helped him gather the sheep but reminded him that no one believes a liar, even when they are telling the truth.

The boy learned an important lesson that day: always tell the truth.
