00:00For residents of Acapulco, it's like reliving a nightmare.

00:04After Hurricane John, the city is under water,

00:07a city that hadn't yet recovered from the havoc of Hurricane Otis just a year ago.

00:13We're desperate.

00:14The federal, municipal and state governments need to look at the situation in Acapulco.

00:19It's very critical.

00:21The water, the floods, the people drowning.

00:25Acapulco is completely destroyed.

00:28Most of the victims reported killed in Mexico were trapped under landslides.

00:34As Hurricane John wrought its devastation there,

00:37on the other side of the Gulf of Mexico,

00:39Hurricane Helen carved a swathe across the southeastern US.

00:44Dozens of people across six states are confirmed dead.

00:47Now communities are picking up the pieces.

00:51I've never seen so many people homeless as what I have right now.

00:55Not in my community.

00:57And the other thing, this is the third storm in a year.

01:01I don't know how much more we can take,

01:03and then they're telling us there's another one out there.

01:05In this region of Florida, many houses are built on stilts to help withstand high waters,

01:11but no home was spared from damage.

01:14This is a coastal town.

01:17It's the cost.

01:19This is the devastation that you go through living in a coastal town.

01:29Some families have been here for generations.

01:32They say despite the risks, they're determined to rebuild.
