Bosnia and Herzegovina has declared a state of emergency after at least 17 people were killed in floods and landslides due to ongoing heavy rains.

00:10The floods have affected several towns and villages
00:12in the central and southern part of the country.
00:15Rescue services said some 20 to 40 people were missing
00:20and called on volunteers to assist their operation
00:23as roads were closed and houses left without electricity.
00:27The deceased flood victims are mostly from the Jablanica area.
00:30The country's defense minister Zukan Helis
00:33said the armed forces had been deployed to the affected areas.
00:37Many residents were forced to evacuate as intense downpours
00:40caused rivers to overflow and triggered landslides.
00:44Citizens have been advised to avoid traveling
00:46to the affected municipalities
00:48to minimize the risk of more casualties.
00:51The flood is reported to be the country's worst flooding
00:54since 2014, which claimed more than 20 lives.
