00:24Whitney was scared.

00:27Arguably the biggest pop star in the world wasn't sure if she was good enough.

00:33She didn't think she looked right.

00:36There were a thousand things to her that seemed wrong.

00:58I called her, I said, I have this movie.

01:00You're who I'm thinking of. I'm not thinking of anybody else.

01:03You know, it's almost yours to lose or to take.

01:09I felt like, can I do this movie? Can I really pull this movie off?

01:13I mean, I'm playing opposite Kevin Costner.

01:15He's, you know, he's well-trained and all that kind of stuff.

01:19But he knows what he's doing. He's done it so many times.

01:42Something hit me one day and it said, well, you know, Whitney,

01:45there will probably never be another role like this for a woman,

01:50especially a black woman, to do again.

01:56♪

02:00You know, there was a time when I identified with Rachel so much.

02:03I was threatened and there was a letter sent to me.

02:07And, you know, the guy threatened me and said that he would take me out, you know.

02:12I thought about it for a second. I thought, well, maybe I shouldn't go on, you know.

02:17But then there's 19,000 people waiting for me.

02:24I held her hand and told her that she looked beautiful.

02:27I told her that I would be with her every step of the way.

02:31That everyone there wanted her to succeed.

02:35But I could still feel the doubt.

02:37He said, don't worry. He said, I will be there with you.

02:40And he said, believe me, you're going to be natural at it.

02:42He said, you're going to be just great in this film.

02:44And I was going, well, how do you know this?

02:51I had a miscarriage during the filming of The Bodyguard.

02:56It was very painful, emotionally and physically.

02:59I was back on the set the next day.

03:01Who cares? Kevin really cares.

03:04Kevin takes the time.

03:33No matter how dark things get for any of us,

03:35I mean, if we can somehow hold on,

03:37our life can be in a really different place a couple years from now.

03:52The Whitney I knew, despite her success and worldwide fame,

03:55still wondered, am I good enough?

03:57Am I pretty enough?

03:59Will they like me?

04:03It was the burden that made her great

04:06and the part that caused her to stumble in the end.

04:30If you could hear me now, I would tell you,

04:34you weren't just good enough.

04:37You were great.

04:40You sang the whole damn song without a band.

04:43And people didn't just like you, Whitney.

04:46They loved you.

04:48All those young girls who are dreaming that dream,

04:52but maybe thinking they aren't good enough.

04:58I think Whitney would tell you,

05:01guard your bodies

05:04and guard the precious miracle of your own life.

05:08And then sing your hearts out,

05:11knowing that there's a lady in heaven who is making God himself wonder

05:15how he created something so perfect.
