Angry farmers in the western French city of Limoges on Tuesday (Nov 19) burned bags of hay and poured liquid manure in front of the local prefecture in protest of a trade deal between the EU and South America's Mercosur bloc, which will further intensify competition for the French agriculture sector. 00:53On Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated his opposition to the proposed

00:58Mercosur deal.

00:59However, with few EU allies in the talks and deep rural grievances, authorities may struggle

01:05to appease the farmers.
