And Windies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite is keen on winning the contest with pride at stake, since both teams cannot qualify for the World Test Championships final.
Transcript
00:00The West Indies have had the edge against Bangladesh most of the times with the latest
00:04wins being 2-0 on the Asian continent in 2021 and then in 2022 in the Caribbean, that score
00:11line also being the same.
00:13With the two teams set to meet on Friday in Antigua in the opening test match, Windies
00:17skipper Craig Bratwaite and his troops are ready.
00:19Well the guys are really looking forward to it, you know we haven't played test cricket
00:23for a little while so the guys are excited to get out there, it's a ground we love playing
00:30at, we enjoy playing here and the guys are ready and raring to go.
00:34In 2018, Bangladesh were bowled out for 43 in Antigua, so would that give the West Indies
00:40a psychological advantage?
00:42I mean everything gone is history, I mean we're playing against a talented Bangladesh
00:46team so what's gone is gone, we obviously all look forward to coming tomorrow and starting
00:52well in whatever we do.
00:54Even though the West Indies don't have a shot at the World Test Championships, Bratwaite
00:58sees the series as being very important, after all pride is also at stake.
01:03Yeah for sure, obviously we looked at the points as a team and we know we've got four
01:08games left in this cycle and we can still pretty much come high up on the table, we've
01:13just got to believe and as I said we're playing against a talented Bangladesh team so it won't
01:18be easy.
01:19Obviously what's gone is gone, the performances before against Bangladesh is gone, we've got
01:23to come ready and raring to go tomorrow morning.
01:26Bangladesh stand-in Captain Mehdi Hassan Miraj says even though names such as regular skipper
01:31Najmul Hussain Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahim are missing through injury, the Tigers are
01:36in good spirits.
01:37We are playing here last two test matches, like you know last two years ago we are coming
01:43here and just playing.
01:45I think it's much better and we just think about positive all the time, we don't think
01:51about negative, we just focus on our game.
01:56The second and final test match is in Jamaica and starts on November 30th.
