Submissive Pittie Became "Aggressive" When Her Puppies Were Born

Pittie couldn't stop shaking once her babies were born — wait to see what she's like now. We are celebrating Pittie Awareness Month by highlighting some our favorite pitties and their parents!

00:00Right after she gave birth, she immediately became very protective of the puppies.

00:08My husband, she did lunge at him and almost bite him.

00:12I was like, what are we going to do with her?

00:16We hadn't seen a dog going from being completely submissive and friendly

00:20to acting almost feral.

00:22She did not want anyone near the puppies or near her.

00:26It is 5.30 in the morning.

00:29Two degrees outside, but we had to take this pregnant girl in.

00:34She was definitely nervous.

00:36She was shut down.

00:37She was found wandering down the side of the road.

00:40She's so sweet.

00:41She warmed up to me really fast.

00:44She wanted to be near people.

00:48The puppies do need to be handled by people,

00:50and we want to give them the best chance to grow up.

00:52So we do separate them if absolutely necessary.

00:56So we're like, take all these puppies to be fostered,

00:58where they can be bottle fed and properly monitored.

01:00Let her keep the really healthy one,

01:02because I wanted her to nurture those instincts.

01:05It was a slow process with a lot of little steps.

01:11Every day, I would just inch a little closer to the puppy.

01:14Let me touch this puppy.

01:16Can I touch it?

01:19I just want to give him the pet.

01:20One day, I just put my hand out, and I was like,

01:22please, please, please, like, don't bite me.

01:24And she let me do it.

01:25And I was like, oh, thank God.

01:28Good job.

01:28Where's my baby?

01:32Where's mom?

01:32She doesn't even care anymore.

01:34And then after two weeks, I mean,

01:35she honestly couldn't care less about the puppy.

01:38She wanted attention from me.

01:41Your baby's there.

01:43She doesn't care anymore.

01:44It didn't happen overnight.

01:46It was kind of these little victories.

01:48I'm glad, like, we didn't give up on her.

01:49And she landed in a place where she had that time and space

01:52to come around.

01:53They all got adopted.

01:55And then she got adopted a lot faster

01:57than I thought she would.

01:58And her family adored her.
