Has this happened to anyone else? We talked to Kat about how accidentally adopting a dog ended up being the best decision she ever made!

00:00I signed up to foster and volunteer at my local Humane Society.

00:05We had to move for my boyfriend's first professional hockey contract,

00:08so I wanted to find something fun to do in this new area that we lived in.

00:12We are potentially making a drastic decision right now.

00:17This shelter needs 46 dogs picked up today, so we have to go.

00:23So many dogs needed rescuing.

00:25Most of them were puppies, but the one that stood out to me was Rookie.

00:31Hi, baby.

00:33I was not planning on getting a dog at all,

00:36and I always envisioned myself to have, like, a small, blonde puppy.

00:41But something in me knew he had to come home with us that day.

00:49I'm having a son right now.

00:52Before we knew it, my boyfriend and I were signing adoption papers.

00:56What's daddy here, mister?

00:58He was so excited to say goodbye to that shelter cage forever.

01:04We ran to the pet store to get him his very first dog bed and treats and toys.

01:11It will only sit entirely on me.

01:16So I started my workout. This is how it's going.

01:21Rookie got really comfortable really fast.

01:27Maybe even a little too comfortable.

01:33No. Everybody meet Rookie.

01:36Rookie and I became inseparable.

01:39He's a passenger princess. No comments or questions at this time.

01:43My life quickly changed from going out on Friday nights

01:46to hand-cutting treats for Rookie in my pajamas.

01:50I am fully aware that this is Rookie's TikTok account now.

01:54Rookie has even become a star in my TikTok videos.

01:57He's basically taken over my account at this point.

02:00I love you, I love you, I love you.

02:02And best of all, my days and nights where I was once lonely

02:05when my boyfriend was away traveling for hockey,

02:08they quickly became so much more fun now that I had Rookie always with me.

02:13Within a month of adopting Rookie, my boyfriend got traded

02:18and we have to move again to a completely new state

02:22where I again knew no one.

02:24On the road again.

02:26I was super nervous about the move,

02:29but having Rookie made me feel so much more secure.

02:34B, there's no way you're comfortable.

02:38Road tripping with Rookie made the whole process so much more fun too.

02:42Would you like a new place, buddy?

02:45That's when I really realized that home isn't a place.

02:48Home was with Rookie.

02:51Hi, you know.

02:53You got a piggy.

02:55No matter where I end up, no matter what life throws at me,

02:59I will always have my sweet boy and best friend.

03:02If you just get a Rookie, it does help because he's never sad.

03:06It makes me look forward to thousands of new adventures

03:09we will continue to have together in the future.
