00:04Daryl George, 17, has been suspended for several weeks from his Houston high school because of his dreadlocks.

00:10For the establishment, his hairstyle violates the school district's clothing code.

00:14It stipulates that male students' hair should never come down under eyebrows or earlobes.

00:21However, since September 1, the state of Texas has been applying the 2016 law against the so-called Crown Act hair discrimination.

00:28This law prohibits discrimination related to hair in public places such as schools.

00:33According to the teenager's mother, the school's leaders explained that the law concerned the types of hairstyles but not their length.

00:40The high school also gave him a one-week delay to cut his hair by threatening to place him in a disciplinary establishment.

00:47The high school student's family decided to pursue the establishment and the Texas authorities.

00:52This is not the first time that the authorities in this district have been accused of hair discrimination.

00:57In 2020, the families of two other black students had prosecuted them and obtained a cause.
