00:02I'm somebody who's coming from a past that is aware of that.

00:05It is my choice to be with her,

00:07but I cannot expect everybody to understand it and accept it easily.

00:31Why did you feel the need, Arjun, to take baby steps

00:35in bringing your relationship with Malaika out?

00:37Was it because you wanted to respect the people around you?

00:39Yes, completely.

00:40Is that mainly the reason why you kept it?

00:42Absolutely, because I think somewhere,

00:44Karan, I've lived a life being on the other end of the spectrum.

00:47I grew up in a disjointed or a dysfunctional situation

00:51where things were not the easiest,

00:53being a son, having to see what was going on around

00:55and having an understanding of it,

00:57but still having to respect and accept.

00:59So, somewhere there was an understanding in my head about how

01:02I should try and ease everybody into it,

01:04including the first people around us.

01:06It's very important.

01:07I mean, I can't just jump on her and it has to be done.

01:10I'm so glad I didn't know about it though.

01:12Yeah, because you can't, I think,

01:13because sometimes the first reaction can be of anybody

01:16who cares about you, might just be, what do you mean?

01:19But if you ease them in,

01:20they also start understanding that there is love.

01:22I think at the end of the day, if there is genuine love,

01:25there is compatibility, there is a certain ease.

01:27I thought that you didn't take the

01:29what is love, what is fear stand.

01:30You took the stand that we have to be empathetic

01:33to Malaika's family, to your own family,

01:36to Malaika's ex-family.

01:38I think to everybody you had to have a certain sense of

01:41compassion and empathy.

01:42Yeah, because I am like that as a person.

01:45I will always think about everybody else first

01:47because it is my choice to be with her,

01:49but I cannot expect everybody to understand it

01:51and accept it easily.

01:53It has to be allowed to grow.

01:55It has to be allowed to be given a certain…

01:56We say, it has to be given a certain status.

01:58I have to give regard to the relationship

02:00and the people around and ease everybody into it.

02:01I had to do that, including the public eye.

02:04It's not that we didn't think about it

02:05or talk about it as a couple,

02:06but there are baby steps.

02:08And along with that, I think there is a certain

02:11basic understanding you need to have that

02:13she's had a life, she has a child.

02:16I am somebody who is coming from a past

02:18that is aware of that.

02:19So people, the moral compass of the country,

02:21you cannot dictate.

02:22So, no wedding bells as yet?

02:23No plans as yet for you and Mala?

02:26And honestly, because it's been two years

02:29of this lockdown and COVID

02:30and whatever was transpiring,

02:32and I wanted to focus on my career.

02:33So you'll know when the time is right?

02:35Yeah, I would like to see where I'm going in.

02:37And I'm a very realistic person, Karan.

02:38It's not that I need to hide anything.

02:39I'm not sitting here and being coy.

02:41I really would like to be professionally

02:43a little more stable.

02:44And I'm not talking about financially.

02:45I'm just talking about emotionally.

02:47I would like to do work that makes me happy

02:49because if I'm happy, I can make my partner happy.

02:51I can live a happier life.
