Police are investigating a toddler’s death from being left in a hot car

Police say they’re conducting a ‘complex’ investigation after a two-year-old girl died after being left in a hot car in Far North Queensland. The toddler was found in the vehicle of a council car park at Innisfail, south of Cairns.

00:08in this council car park on Monday afternoon. Despite the efforts of first responders, she

00:14couldn't be revived at the Innisfail Hospital.

00:18It appears the child had been in the vehicle by herself for quite some time and the parents

00:24were away from the car at the time the child was found.

00:27Police say the child's parents were at work and looking after their family when the tragedy

00:32unfolded. It was 30 degrees at the time she was found. Kids Save Queensland says temperatures

00:39can rise quickly inside cars.

00:41It's a 30 degree outside, you can get up to 30 and 40 degrees hotter, so it can be 60

00:47and 70 degrees inside a car.

00:50The Cassowary Coast Regional Council has extended its condolences to the family.

00:56Police say the investigation is likely to take quite some time due to its complex nature

01:01and that the family of the little girl are being very cooperative.

01:12and there will be a range of factors that we'll need to assess. The investigation will
