Hair Dressers Celebrate 30th Birthday with Ellie Simmonds

00:00So Nicky, we're here celebrating an incredible day aren't we?

00:04We are, 30 years in the industry, 40 years in the industry but 30 years in business.

00:10So it's been a long long road, lots of ups and downs, recessions, global pandemics as you know.

00:16But we're still here, I've had an amazing team over the last 30 years, lots of different people.

00:21Helen who's with me now, she's been with me 26 years.

00:25And then I've got Eve and my daughter who joined the group 16 years ago.

00:29You went to school with Eve didn't you?

00:31Yes I went to school with Eve and it's great to celebrate Aldridge as well isn't it?

00:35Oh yes.

00:36We've got such a good community here, we're not just celebrating for the British Heart Foundation.

00:40We are.

00:41We've got another charity as well, we've got two charities.

00:43We have, I mean we had a personal experience about eight weeks ago,

00:47my husband suffered a heart attack and you know it makes you realise that you do need to support these charities

00:52and I think when it happens to yourself you know you realise that you've got to do something about it.

00:57And so we're doing that today and we're also doing the Birmingham Children's Hospital.

01:00Again that's close to my heart, a dear friend of mine's son had a very very nasty accident

01:05and the Birmingham Children's Hospital has been amazing.

01:08So again close to my heart, Birmingham's not far from here.

01:11So yeah it's lovely to raise money for both of those charities today.

01:14Yeah I think for me it's like such a family business isn't it?

01:17It is, it is.

01:18You know you come here, you can see it behind you, everyone's happy, everyone's chatting.

01:21It's just like so family orientated, you come in, you get a good chat,

01:25you get your hair done and it's just amazing.

01:30We're the unpaid psychiatrists, definitely hairdressers are.

01:34And keeping up with fashion and you know it's hard keeping up with everything up to date

01:38and like you say people come here and we don't really push that we're all clinical and it's all,

01:43we like people to come in, it's like your living room, you have a chat, you have a cry, we have a laugh

01:49and that's the way we like it and I've done that for 30 years and I think that's the winning formula.
