WA town of Boyup Brook thrilled with first community crop harvest

A town in WA’s south-west has just finished harvesting a first ever community crop to raise much needed funds for the town. It is a combined effort that brings farmers and other residents together at the busiest time of the year for producers

00:00Christmas has come early for this southwest town, watching their first community crop

00:09being harvested.

00:10So it's quite exciting really, yeah, for the community, the local community of Boyarbrook.

00:16Local farmers have offered up their time and land to grow a variety of crops.

00:22And he's kindly donated 36 hectares of his own farm for the Boyarbrook community and

00:26it's, yeah, he's put it into barley.

00:29Aiming to raise tens of thousands of dollars for the town.

00:33Yeah, it's very exciting and hopefully bigger things to come.

00:37Money raised from this community crop will go towards upgrading the town's sporting club

00:43facilities.

00:44It just gives us a hope for our future.

00:48Aiming to replace these decades old buildings.

00:52It'll be a refurbishment of the current building that we're standing in front of, currently

00:57the football club rooms.

00:58However, this will become our sporting club room, so everyone will have a space and be

01:05able to use the facility.

01:07It also has opened up dialogue with the children around town for what the possibility is by

01:15doing this and being involved in it.

01:18It's so big.

01:22This is the first year that the Boyarbrook community have come together to raise money

01:26for the town.

01:28It's a great initiative because it lets anyone become involved and learn about life living

01:33on the land, clearly.
